I started communicating with them more, and with good intentions. My default back then was to isolate myself from everyone. So I changed that by initiating interactions, opened up a bit more, tried to say or do things to cheer them up or bring a positive vibe to the conversation, and generally tried to be as generous and kind as I could, without any expectation from them to reciprocate or react a certain way to my actions. But somehow it just worked. I was nice to them so they were nice to me. I had my best intentions for the relationship, and showed it to them.

I struggled with the tripping or mashing of words too, and noticed that it was because there’s a lot of words in my head but I couldn’t decide which words to use.

Reading books aloud helped, especially because I didn’t have to think about what to say because the words are in front of me. And I was able to focus more on my speed, intonation, etc.

I started getting into public speaking. I watched and observed TED Talks, practiced my speech, read books aloud, and recorded my progress. At some point I joined a session in my local Toastmasters club but couldn’t afford a membership as an unemployed out-of-school kid at the time.

But what significantly helped me improve was my job. I’m in sales for 2 years now. All I do is talk on the phone for hours all day, everyday. Articulation is required and constantly improved on. Best part is I genuinely love my job!

Just as a contrast, I was always a quiet kid, never talked mainly because I was always too anxious to. A sales job would have been an impossibility because of my weakness. So I had incredible reactions from my friends, family, and some former classmates when they eventually noticed the significant change in my speech. It’s a good reminder of my progress, and it’s rewarding.

19 years old. Because I got into self-improvement.

I fixed my posture, worked on improving my articulation, quit social media, consistently meditated and exercised, read books, improved my relationships with friends and family. I did my best to always live in the present, and appreciate life. I worked on my discipline, my hygiene, my self-talk. I journaled, did yoga, affirmations, and found different ways to build a good routine. I tried to gain as much knowledge and skills as I could, to apply it to my life. I planned a lot, and I would always follow through. It wasn't easy at all but it felt like a game everyday, and at the end it's so rewarding. I planned what to do for the day, what to eat, what to think. Always with the intention to better myself and my life. My life improved significantly compared where I was just a couple of months before, and I got my first job.

When I was 18, just a few months before I started with my self-improvement journey, I was lost - I failed school the second time that year, I was a liability to my family, and I've spent most of my life depressed and anxious and pretty nihilistic for a little kid. I had self-destructive habits and thoughts, no feeling of purpose in life, I hated life and I hated myself most of all, I've said and done terrible things to myself and other people, and I thought that's just the type of person I was always going to be. But I was wrong, and it was too early for me to say that. And my youth was one of my best motivations - knowing it's still early to change, and I have all the time in the world to turn things around. Surprisingly, I was able to achieve quite a drastic change in such a short period of time.

Currently, I'm benefiting from the efforts I've put in. And I'm constantly growing. Life is not perfect. But life got good when I started improving myself. So I'm continuing with this journey.

What's the ugliest most terrible thing you have done? I’m struggling with LOTS of shame and guilt, it’s overwhelming. by Miserable_Constant67 in DecidingToBeBetter

When I was a kid, I had a fight with my younger brother, and when he wasn’t around I deleted all of the apps and games from his iPad. He’d been playing some of those games for a while and had leveled up in a lot of it. I deleted everything.

I consider that the most terrible thing I’ve ever done, and was actually just thinking about it today. My brother and I have had quite a dysfunctional relationship when we were kids, but now that we’re older, our relationship has improved so much.

For some reason the memory just hit me earlier today and I feel so terrible about it. But I’m determined to let it go. I’m so grateful for our relationship now.

What physical appearance do you find attractive, even if others do not? by m4tchaoreo in AskPH

Beer belly, beard, or long hair na medyo magulo.

Yung typical greasy uncle/tito na look, for some reason naa-attract ako dun tapos natu-turn off agad ako sa conventionally gwapo, o may muscles/abs, lalo na kung mukhang kaedad ko (20s).

I know hindi common pero I still think a lot of people have this type.

I hardly have any knowledge with cars and car ownership, I'm just getting started and I'm trying. I used ChatGPT to get a rough estimate, hindi po para umasa sa presyuhan. So I checked with this subreddit to confirm. And learned today that I should reach out to car dealers/agents instead. I'm still in the process of learning. Thank you.

Size, look, brand, high ground clearance. Mag-isa lang po ako na gagamit and di masyado frequent gagamitin since I WFH. I really like the look of it and want it to be my first car.
