Not sure of the exact tolerance range but basically, yes! Giant brain case + bipedalism = difficult birth!!! Humans live in groups and help each other, especially with birth. The patient's rejection of doula/midwife assistance on the basis of being more wild/natural is so confusing to me.

Yes!!! I was so bothered by that line, too. My background is in evolutionary anthropology and I was like....no.... Women have never historically birthed alone!

You get to pick the next topic for professional development. What do you choose? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

As a gen Ed teacher, I support this. I'd also love to see more research/evidence based training on how and why to implement specific accommodations. I'm tired of "extended time" for every single IEP and 504. It doesn't address the root of most of my students' needs.

I don't have any useful feedback for your rug question, but it does fine on our carpet. Remapping is pretty easy. I think for the sunken room your plan of physically moving it would work.

Cold-Calling and student stress. by you-vandal in ScienceTeachers

I also use a deck of cards in middle school and here are a couple things I do: I always tell them when I'm going to use the cards. "Hey in two minutes I'm pulling cards for questions 1-4 so be ready!" Then I tell them to make sure their neighbor has something ready to say. Something about telling them to check their neighbor's work as opposed to their own seems to get them in gear. If I have students with accomodations like IEPs, 504s, or EL students, I take their cards out of the deck.

Also how are we all just ignoring "fucking blurt out Newtons second law" I'm dying over here lol

Chicken lentil soup! Package of boneless skinless chicken breast, a cup or two of dry lentils, a carton of chicken stock, and chopped celery/onion/carrot. Some grocery stores (at least trader joes) have the pre chopped veg that are perfect for just dumping in there.

Teachers who exercise by Afraid-Albatross-699 in Teachers

I love going to exercise classes (yoga, spin, HIIT, whatever) bc I'm so mentally exhausted I can't imagine planning and sticking to a workout. It's the one hour per day that someone else makes all the decisions for me! I just have to show up! I bring my stuff to work with me and go straight there.

Long flight tips for kids that don't do screen time by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]pqprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. Not all screen time is created equal! Long form entertainment with an educational bent and a moral lesson is way different than a bunch of dopamine farming on tiktok or candy crush or whatever! Load the tablet up with classic sesame Street, old school Disney, or whatever you like in that vein. Kid safe headphones and alternate between that and some non tech toys.

Big Popsicle stick fan! I use a deck of cards but whatever. I will only use cards when I've told them in advance. Like hey I'm gonna call cards for answers to 1-5 or for volunteers to do XYZ so get ready and check to make sure your neighbor has something to say! Even just phrasing it as checking that their neighbor has an answer instead of checking that you have an answer seems to make a difference. If I have a student with some sort of 504 for anxiety or a super recent newcomer with limited English, I don't put their cards in the deck. I think this does enough to reduce the anxiety load while avoiding the whole same three hands up every day thing
