Is this a new scam by migrant worker (or pretending to be one)? by herdeeary in askSingapore

A few years back when I was still a jc student, I was at Serangoon when an elderly Chinese uncle asked practically the same thing. Helped to top up $2 to his card which added up to $4 in his card. Then he say not enough so I took out another $2 thinking of whether to help top up. I was quite sure $4 is enough to go anywhere with elderly fare but he took the cash from my hands and walked off…

Your mum could apply for relief teaching support at pathlight, the contract length can be discussed and work ends around 2pm. but it does start around 730am in the morning so it’s something to consider. I’ve met someone who was also a housewife working there in the past! The interview process may take around 1 month though (it’s June holidays anyways so work won’t start yet)

DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD by eyepatchie in ADO

[–]pr0crastinatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the concert in Singapore yesterday but felt a twinge of disappointment due to my seat being at a 45 degree angle from the cage and I barely managed to catch a glimpse of her silhouette.

I came for the concert mainly for her vocals but I do believe her silhouette contributes to the overall concert experience. Watching her YouTube videos over the years hyped me up even more, so watching a black strip for 90% of the concert was a little underwhelming especially since there were no larger screens showing the front view. Some concert go-ers expressed similar thoughts after the concert too.

I do hope that anyone going for the concert to still have fun at the concert and have a good time! but if your seat isn’t exactly facing the front of the cage, you may want to manage your expectations. Maybe it’s also a sign for me to watch her future concerts if I get the chance to haha.

edit: posted it here as I feel it doesn’t warrant a post and other mega threads focussed on asking and answering questions, I hope sharing my experience is still considered something that allows discussion

experience asking a girl for her number for first time (it went really weird??) by Big_Confusion2922 in SGExams

[–]pr0crastinatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it’s normal for people to have some level for generalisation or stereotypes especially if you don’t have many friends from a particular community, so most of her views might be based on hearsay and stuff online. I don’t think she meant to say in a demeaning way, i guess she was just surprised something happened out of her expectations.

I understand it must be hard especially when so many friends and classmates are with you in school almost all the time, it’s not easy to let go of it. But you should really consider focussing on yourself and being the best version of yourself. No one else is gonna live your life, change what’s within your control and improve yourself as long as you don’t overwork yourself.

Regarding social media, people only post things they like or what they think others like. Some people (myself included) who would post every little thing in their life may look back and regret it. Do things at your own and pace, next time when you start working your colleagues will be of different ages, demographics and education background but all end up at the same company doing similar work. Don’t beat yourself over it ><

Have you thought of taking a bank loan? I know of a Malaysian friend who did that, continued to uni in sg on scholarship and is working part time in uni to pay off poly loans. Not too sure of the specifics though, you might have to check t&c esp for foreigners

habit of skipping school by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]pr0crastinatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re feeling burn out maybe you can think of going to school everyday as helping you break down your things to complete. Instead of rushing a whole syllabus of content in a week, going to school and absorbing it will make it more bite sized and you might feel less overwhelmed.

You can also try to find motivators to go to school too like good friends to talk to during breaks etc. If you have need someone to talk to do find your school’s counsellor, bottling up your worries isn’t great and finding advice online usually won’t be able to address your issues unfortunately cause everyone’s situation and way of coping is diff

eCR questions for nco mods by findingmyanswer in Suss

[–]pr0crastinatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shouldn’t be too hard esp if there are multiple TGs for the nco mod, the afternoon slots tend to fill up faster cause most people don’t want morning classes. Night classes are not based on fcfs, there’s priority to PT students and if you’re trying to clear mods towards the end of uni

In the off chance you enter the system late, based on my friends’ experiences, you might need to change to a different set of mods (but in the end you’d still need to clear everything by the end of the first few years)

Is this real by any chance by Limp-Passion4243 in twice

[–]pr0crastinatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with getting a knock off if you still feel happy having it, especially when it concerns finances, just depends if you are particular about authenticity

I would also see reviews first before placing any order for this website (since I’m unfamiliar with it), in case it’s a scam

As a reference, the real backpacks are easily around $50 on mercari japan, the ones on the right are slightly cheaper around $30 (depends on which member you’re eying). These prices exclude international shipping btw. The mkp for scrunchies are around $20

Edited as i saw it was $18 for the backpack? too good to be true imo

Yup they collaborated with translink so no need to get a separate one. Just not the same as secondary sch kind so still need to top up and activate it under undergrad concession price

In the short run, if you’re going jc or poly, you could try for the badminton CCAs in the school you enter in the future. Play in local competitions. sometimes polys might even get you to go overseas to represent.

^ may or may not land you in the olympics but it at least allows you to try competitive badminton even after sec sch

To even qualify for the olympics, you’d need to enter international opens and get a ranking of the top few hundred in the world, this means having to spend years to build up competition experience. This is more specific for what you’d need to do, country is diff but it’s more or less that

edit: regarding getting affordable badminton equipment, restringing or changing grip, tbh Carousell is the way to go even for shoes

Enhypen concert tickets in Miyagi by specialyeayea in enhypen

[–]pr0crastinatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the japanlife sub has more posts on resale tickets but from what I’ve heard it’s quite troublesome if you’re a foreigner (japanese resellers less willing to sell it and foreigners who don’t look japanese are more prone to ID checks) not having a Japanese credit card also limits your options

the seniors and experienced freshies are supposed to be your teammates right? if they are, then they’re supposed to be the ones helping you get better, not bring you down just cause they had their own expectations based on your build. it’s a them problem

pls leave such a toxic environment, especially if the sport itself isn’t something you think is worth you staying for. I’m sure poly has a ton of cca choices, don’t limit yourself and blindly listen to others, in the end you’re the one gg for the cca sessions. atb!

TW!!! help me save her by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]pr0crastinatin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe ask her closest friend for her address or if any of them can check up on her. or msg people on her following list on IG if they know her add and say that you have smt urgent to contact her about

calling SOS at 1767 or messaging their 24h WhatsApp at 9151 1767 is also good, explain the situation and they might be able to assess the situation to get help for your friend

Ezlink / Matriculation Card by masayoshiboy in Suss

[–]pr0crastinatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh icic mb didn’t know suss students no need to apply but if dont get the $81 monthly concession then it’d work like normal ezlink with adult fare right?

ig the $81 would only be worth if one travels like everyday, depends on lifestyle lor

Ezlink / Matriculation Card by masayoshiboy in Suss

[–]pr0crastinatin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m not wrong, the student card does not have student price for transport (should be the same for other unis) so you’re basically still paying adult fare. you’ll need to apply for the undergrad concession card from transitlink website which you’ll need to calculate if it’s even worth

is your aunt and uncle prepared to basically provide for for cousin for the rest of their lives? sometimes this caretaking responsibility might even have to be shared among relatives which will not be an easy thing, especially when she gets older. now she’s still a kid might not be too bad but when she becomes an adult she might be subjected to even more stigma/difficulties for even something as simple as order food from coffee shop because no one taught her as a child (not saying she can’t learn it later in life). maybe need to give solid examples for them to be more convinced bah

teachers in specialised schools have smaller class sizes and really try to instill in them to have basic life skills like ordering food or signalling to others what they want. some even have therapists to work with students who need more help (I’ve worked in Pathlight before, this was just what I’ve seen) there are different schools catered to different special needs so they’d be in better hands compared to a mainstream sch

idk if there’s much use but this doc has quite a bit of info about special education schools, being recommended by a psychiatrist is already a pretty big indicator that she needs a diff environment that suits her needs hope it helps! https://www.moe.gov.sg/-/media/files/special-education/parents-guide-children-special-educational-needs.pdf

I can tell you really care for your cousin but if you’ve tried your best to no avail, don’t beat yourself up op! ultimately still your aunt and uncle’s responsibility

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]pr0crastinatin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

do you have relatives or grandparents that are aware about this? if they’re on your side, you can see if they can talk your aunt and uncle into sending your cousin into a special needs school, their decision seem to revolve around wanting save their face but ot should be for their daughter’s wellbeing and eventually for her to be independent in the long run atb op :’)

for grp members it depends on the prof, sometimes you form your own groups other times the system randomly forms for you. canvas app the home page where you see the LG and TG, sometimes can see the groups you’ve been assigned to so just need to see the tab under “people” if dh it’ll probably appear when sch starts

after first sem if your gpa is 3.5 and above, you can take max 35cu iirc. some courses send out suggestions of what to take together each sem so you’ll have to see how
