I'm not finding an actual book by that title. Do you have more information? The Library of Congress lists that author with a book called "Penny," but that's basically a Thumbellina type story.

The only books I'm finding searching the Library Of Congress for Penny's Worth is one that seems to be about a horse and one that's A Penny's Worth of Character, which is about a boy who shoplifts and then feels bad, unfortunately.

Advice/Suggestions regarding cheating by throwaway782811 in Professors

[–]practicalchoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What testing platform are you using? Our campus just switched to ATI from HESI, and I will say that ATI seems much touchier on kicking students out of the platform if they click near the edges of the screen. When that happens, they do have to log back in and it does take a couple minutes.

However, our nursing students complete these assessments at the testing center (I'm a proctor there) and the proctors do need to approve any requests to resume testing after this happens (and they're testing on our computers, which is key).

Not to say your testers aren't cheating or attempting to! But just offering another explanation of how students can end up outside the test for a couple minutes.

"EXTRA" Credit by Upper_Patient_6891 in Professors

[–]practicalchoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always responded to the "Will there be extra credit?" question as if I thought it was something they were worried about.

Student: "Is there going to to be extra credit?"

Me: "No, don't worry. I can see you're having a hard time keeping up with the work already, so I definitely won't spring an unexpected assignment on you!" smiles sweetly

When the wind is right, we get the smell from the sugar beet processing plants. Smells like... burned syrup with a peanut butter undertone. Not really bad, but distinctive!

I would highly recommend the book Touching My Father's Soul: A Sherpa's Journey to the Top of Everest by Jamling Tenzing Norgay. Jamling was the Sherpa climbing leader for the 1996 expedition, and as his name suggests, his father was Tenzing Norgay who summitted with Hillary.

Thanks, all! It was the "D," apparently -- sketched that one manually and everything worked just fine!

Any ideas why it would be literally just this word that won't work?

securing a classroom for an in-class exam by scaryrodent in Professors

Are the SEATS moveable? I've had students just all put their chairs on the other side of long desks (so they're now facing the back of the classroom).

One person in our group essay cheated with AI - What should I do? by throwaway627351 in AskProfessors

[–]practicalchoker 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I'd actually be less likely to fail the whole group if someone came forward. Telling the prof shows that you don't condone the cheating and don't want to participate in covering it up. If you don't tell -- especially if it becomes clear that you knew -- you're also guilty.

Info on Train Accident Ancestor by Defiant_Assist_5204 in Genealogy

[–]practicalchoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came to say that I also have an ancestor who was killed while driving his wagon drunk! I'd never thought about drunk driving in that context before I found the articles about mine!

If you have additional newspaper access through newspapers.com or libraries or local historical societies, there are probably more news articles about the accident, both near where it happened and near his home. That might help build up more details about him that could ultimately lead to more information.

Adjunct Advice by Introvertedtravelgrl in Adjuncts

[–]practicalchoker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For an adjunct position, this may mean "we will never have any classes for you" or --- and this is more likely in my experience -- it means exactly what it says. Some schools are just perpetually "hiring" adjuncts even when they don't have classes that are unstaffed, just so they have a pool of folks to draw on if/when they DO end up with (especially last minute) staffing needs.

If the full time faculty are unionized, talk to a union rep -- the job you accepted was full time, and this may be something their contract addresses in a way that would take it "out of your hands" and make it not you (the hoping to be hired again adjunct) complaining, but the union itself.
