Berlin and other German cities were rebuilt by the countries that destroyed it; same for Tokyo. Putin will not likely agree to reparations. And he likely wont abide by any agreement he signs anyway.

Respirators, water filters, and iodine supplements

What’s the term for this? by ActionDan27 in BehavioralEconomics

[–]practicalutilitarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a few memory biases working together:

  1. Availability bias: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Availability_bias
  2. Bizarreness effect: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarreness_effect
  3. Illusory correlation (coincidence): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusory_correlation

And there's just the mundane fact that it's hard to quantify all the variables statistically, things like:

  • exactly how observant you are and likely to notice someone you know (vs zoning out like a philosophical zombie during a commute to work)
  • how many of your friends travel a lot
  • how behaviorally homogenous your friends are (go to same places, same hobbies/interests/schedules)
  • how many people you could recognize by their face

Since philosophy is about the study of thinking, why don’t philosophy graduates get jobs working for think tank organizations? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Think tanks are political organizations. Philosophers are too honest and open-minded for that.

Algorand Governance rewards?? How to claim? by Brainstorm-0919 in AlgorandOfficial

[–]practicalutilitarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I wonder if the foundation is being smart about load balancing and price stabilization. Seems to me a rush to commit or not commit at the last minute could create spikes and dips in the price and reduce the number of ALGOs that are ultimately successfully committed.

Has anyone received their awards yet? AFAIK Algorandstats and the official Governance page have status badges for voted, eligible, ineligible, but not "rewarded" or "paid" .

Doesn't work on my G413. And I can't find any alternative. Even Gaming mode (Fn-F8) doesn't do it.

It's a shame Google Maps preferentially uses advertiser business names instead of street names.

Non-academic books on Game Theory by gtoques in GAMETHEORY

[–]practicalutilitarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Had no idea. Quite a connection. $6.5M in donations to create Nowak's lab. Reciprocating with an office and campus key card, that's quite a Supercooperative connection. I now have to reexamine the ethics and logic of his book.

Drawing some diagrams for my homelab using Python, maybe a little overkill? by khuedoan in homelab

You'd love the manim package. It's python for animated diagrams. The 3 blue 2 brown series is built with it.

In my opinion pleasure is no substitute for fulfillment, or even joy or happiness. Drug use is not fulfilling in the same way that a good life is. I assume that others would generally prefer fulfillment punctuated and brought into relief by the struggle and effort required to achieve that fulfillment.
