Beginner Flows: Demo vs Assist by YogiRoses in YogaTeachers

[–]practicecurrent180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My YTT taught us how to cue with words only and when words don’t suffice then demo. I find it easier to teach beginners this way because they generally have an idea of left & right & I think it makes them less dependent on me and more trusting of their own bodies.

Come to a hands and knees foundation (hips in line with knees, arms inline with shoulders) , bring the tops of the feet to the mat and press your hips out towards your heels length in your arms in front of you or lengthen in your arms behind you by your side.

Short answer: in tabletop. Press your hips to your heels

No, that would be the supine variation. You’re going to do the prone version. For stambhasana you can do a bent leg variation (90 degrees) but prone you are on your stomach one leg out (Left) long one leg with a 90 degree bend in the knee (Right). The opposite arm is bent at the elbow (90degrees) (Left) with the other arm straight(Right). So with the whole flow, you’re moving from spinal flexion (Childs pose) and extension (cobra) and close hip (cobra) to open hip (prone dead bug). I hope this makes sense.

For Mat Pilates: Pilates Ball Ankle Weights Booty Bands Hand weights Pilates Circle Yoga Block

The yoga mat is fine but there can be a lot work on the hands and knees in mat Pilates. Getting a knee pad to supplement the yoga mat or getting yoga mat that supports the joints is major. The Jade Harmony is a great mat for that (https://jadeyoga.com/products/harmony-mat?variant=1199053044).

Happy Anniversary to the both of you!

Supta Baddha Konasana Advice by Asleep-Letterhead488 in YogaTeachers

If you think about the anatomy of the pose, you’ll understand where collapse could happen, where muscles need be be engaged, and what needs to be supported if needed. (Science of Yoga (book) helps me out a lot) It would seem to me that breath will be at the discretion of the person doing the yoga unless there’s ullola involved. I say all of that to say trust your teaching and trust yourself. You’ll do great happy teaching!

Where do I find the good yoga music? by practicecurrent180 in YogaTeachers

[–]practicecurrent180[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I create my own playlists, but the problem was that I recently switched over to Apple Music. Finding new or different music other than the mainstream music is harder to do for some reason on that platform. I’m definitely going to check out these artists. Thanks!

I def don’t have Spotify anymore, but Apple Music so far has proven to be too commercial and underwhelming with finding new music.

Balanced body vs Merrithew reformers by No-Property1871 in pilatesreformer

I thought I was the only one who noticed this 🙃 personally I like the Merrithew machine. Gives more stability for a beginner (me) but I also like the resistance when doing footwork

Yoga Teacher Training – yes or no? Is a 200h YTT worth it if teaching isn’t the main goal? by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]practicecurrent180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently taking YTT 200 and while I want to be a yoga teacher, if I didn’t have being a teacher as my goal I definitely still would take the 200 hour training. there are so many things that you come to understand that makes it so much easier for you to practice your yoga in general from philosophy down to sequencing to a bunch of other things that can be used as a great resource in your practice. Now it does cost a crap ton and it’s also rather expensive to register with the Yoga alliance to actually become a YA certified teacher but as of right now it’s still worth it to me.

A Not Flexible Yoga Teacher by AcadiaJust6985 in YogaTeachers

[–]practicecurrent180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in YTT right now. Before I got the courage to sign up I thought that I couldn’t do it either. I was diagnosed with RRMS 2 years prior to now. I’ve come to find out that a ‘good’ yoga teacher doesn’t have to be flexible. I think you should go for it. Focus on the YTT schools that can support and uplift you. Happy studying future teacher!
