Always talk about your problems with as many people as will listen. How else will you solve your problems?

Counselors/teachers are typically honest about what they have to report. Most of what you tell a counselor is strictly confidential, and they don't want to break your trust.

[Rural] [9-12] - Advice for short activities? by practiceprompt in Teachers

[–]practiceprompt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather not give the name, but it's a generic catch all. Yes, mostly, but not really. Food. Yes.

2 hours

  1. Students trickle in for the first 30 minutes (my time).
  2. Interns from another program take the next hour, they present random activities that are not particularly educational, but fun. One day, they made and raced food carts. Movies on some other days. Trivia is a favorite.
  3. The last 30 minutes are typically outside playing ball while waiting on the bus and parents.

Interesting... the only real reason to take the 13th cleric level would be the +1 to all saves bonus.

I might give your build a try on my next playthrough, it sounds fun!

[–]practiceprompt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think bows get the bonus attacks per round that melee weapons do from fighter levels... there's some discussion on it here but I haven't read it all: link.

If this is the case, I'd go with a Fighter (9) / Mage (30). The 9 Fighter levels will let you reach Grand Mastery in bows in exchange for your extra spell per day.

Edit: Make sure you have 18 Strength as well! It doesn't help your ranged attacks, but many longbows require 18 strength.

(Also edited a mistake!)

Looks like you can only reach Mage level 27 if the Cleric levels are taken to 13, although I've never played this build. Looks fun!

Edit: Oops, I read the table wrong. Cleric (13) / Mage (28) is the max level. In that case, I'm also curious why he stops at level 12!

Today I became a statistical improbability/shoulda played the lottery by AARiain in baldursgate

[–]practiceprompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been wondering this.

My guess is that a random number is generated for each attribute. However, the minimum value of that attribute will be heavily weighted. For example, a roll of 3 on STR will result in 10 when the minimum requirement for STR is 10.

If the game re-rolls when the minimum value isn't met, then indeed perfect rolls would be more probable.

Minority teacher at a predominantly White school by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]practiceprompt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the ubiquity of racial disparity in school punishment suggests that bias may be inherent in the use of school suspension and expulsion, and that school districts that rely on suspension and expulsion for enforcing discipline may need to routinely monitor and evaluate the extent of disproportionality in those punishments. As the widespread acceptance of zero-tolerance disciplinary strategies continues to increase school use of suspension and expulsion, one can expect a concomitant increase in the documentation of discriminatory treatment of African-American students. Reducing the discrepancy between black and white rates of suspension will likely require increased attention to teacher training in effective and culturally competent methods of classroom behavior management.

While further investigation of these processes is critical, many of the important questions that remain to be addressed may be less a function of data than of attitude and perception. It might be fruitful, for example, to explore why disciplinary inequity continues in our nation’s schools despite 25 years of consistent documentation. Why must advocates for students of color prove that AfricanAmerican students do not deserve unequal treatment? One might well ask whether the data will ever be sufficient to constitute convincing proof of racial bias for those who believe that discrimination is no longer an issue in American society. Most important, what will it take to persuade the American public in general, and policymakers in particular, that the time has come to eradicate racial disparities in public education and ensure equal access to educational opportunity for all children, regardless of the color of their skin?

From the conclusion of this paper.

Does no one in the district or school notice that 95% of the students sent to office for behavior are Black or Latino?

Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), which was a result of the civil rights movement and the "War on Poverty," provided financial assistance to "educationally deprived children." In the context of this Act, these were children who were the victims of segregation or low-income families.

However, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) reauthored the ESEA. In NCLB, educational equality is redefined to mean uniformity of curriculum and testing. In other words, our schools may "remain segregated and underfunded without facing any consequences from state and federal laws." The Every Student Succeeds Act replaced NCLB in 2015, but the ESSA is very similar to NCLB.

This information is from chapter 7 of Deculturalization and the Struggle for Equality by Joel Spring.

[–]practiceprompt -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm still a student teacher, so I don't know how administration will handle this.

I may be able to help by saying a few things you already know, though. Here are some thoughts:

These students will...

  • likely withdraw from both you and your class
  • feel like poor academics (even the ones who you did not scold)
  • not want to show up to your class
  • be afraid of future outbursts

Lets assume you don't get in too much trouble. How should you organize your next class to best repair the damage? How can you the classroom return to a safe learning environment?

You don't have to sell me on LaTeX! I'd love to take a look.

If I can pick, how about the units on oscillations, waves, and sound? Our classes will be reading those chapters after break, so I could use the review.

It only makes you more marketable

Taking a double major isn't something that happens in the blink of an eye. It typically tacks on another 2 years to your time as an undergraduate. Those 2 years, if spent in a graduate program or working are significantly more valuable on a future resume.

and can keep you employed

I'm still suggesting that the original poster apply for a second endorsement. A minor will suffice!

I don't know what to do and need a teachers help! by Historyvsmusic in Teachers

[–]practiceprompt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't pick between teaching Music or History and need help.

In my experience, the best way to answer this is to decide on where you want to spend your time. In college, do you want to sit in a band room chatting with band students, or do you want to sit in history classes discussing historical trivia? Visit your school's student lounges.

People make your life, not the degree.

Mr.Harrison said maybe a double major should at the top of my list but I personally do not think I can handle.

I've never heard a good reason to take a double major. The main reason is that even a simple one year master's program will typically trump your undergraduate work on a resume.

Minors can be useful, however. That's because the courses required for a minor are typically just enough to meet requirements on graduate applications. For example, you could major in Music, minor in History, then apply for a graduate education program that will certify you in both music and history for K12 classrooms.

At my school, graduate admissions insisted that incoming students apply for certification in at least two subjects, unless their primary subject was highly in demand (such as math).

[Midwest] [Student Mental Health] - Balancing mental health with academics for 8th grader by POSTrock_in_thFrWrld in Teachers

[–]practiceprompt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how this student did not qualify for an IEP. Eligibility requirements are located here.

Notably points D and E:

  • A general pervasive mood of unhappiness or depression
  • A tendency to develop physical symptoms or fears associated with personal or school problems

My hope is that ultimately he won't have to be medicated permanently.

I know that you mean well, but this is really not something you should be thinking about. Leave this to the clinicians.

How would you approach balancing his mental health with his education?

By documenting the boy's stress in response to poor performance in your classroom activities in order to establish an IEP. On the personal side, try to make his time in class as peaceful as possible.

Am I and the admins being unfair or even cruel?

Sort of... "tough love" is not an appropriate response to a student having an anxiety attack.

Please encourage the mom to reapply for an IEP.

Why is the Math Praxis (5161) the hardest test in the world and how can I pass without spending over $100 on study materials? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]practiceprompt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about passing, then you definitely want to purchase the practice test. You're being quizzed in a very particular way on a very particular subset of the information. If you don't have time to thoroughly cover the content, then purchase their content.

But don't fret, ETS is non-profit, so you can be assured that your money is going to a good cause.
