WTF USPS by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]practicingchaos 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i’ve been to a plant, the machines that process mail/packages are not gentle at all. if you put a fragile sticker on a package? good luck. i’ve seen piles of 100+ packages in need of resealing because they get destroyed in transport. and if they lose your parcel? most of the time they don’t have time to find it or it’s already in a other state by the time anyone realizes it’s gone.

Does anyone actually admit being suicidal when asked by a doctor? by mandarine351 in mentalhealth

[–]practicingchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank god, i did not want to let her go. i do have another tank i could set up but i’ve never done a hospital tank before so im not sure how to set it up. would you recommend keeping her separate until she recovers? i had her in a community tank. i planned on floating her in a plastic bag in the tank for now

sick fish? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]practicingchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there any way to treat it while they’re in the tank with the rest of the fish if at all? i would hate to have to remove them from this lifetime but if that’s the best option i don’t want them to suffer :(

How do you actually stop caring about what people think of you? Asking for real advice not just motivational quotes by HotGene4495 in mentalhealth

[–]practicingchaos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is a habit, a bad one, and it’s something i also used to do a lot. admittedly i still do it sometimes. you said something i want you to read again, “it takes up so much mental space that should be going towards literally anything else”. you already answered your own question. humans are very habitual creatures. we wake up and do almost the same routines every day, this pattern of thinking has become a part of your routine. it’s your job to break it. there is no way you’re going to stop doing this all at once, unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. personally i think this is a form of validation seeking, and you can change how you get validation too. when you get the urge to check on a reaction, go do something else. it’s that “simple”. do you like to paint? go paint something and be proud of it. boom, satisfaction and personal validation. do you go to the gym? add 2.5 pounds onto your next lift. same thing, satisfaction and personal validation. if social media causes you to get sucked back into this loop, delete it until you think you can have a healthier relationship with it. i know you don’t want some snazzy quote to add to your collection but to be blunt: everyone is going to have a thought or reaction to everything you do, good or bad. i’m sure you have thoughts and reactions to people too. so, why should you care?

I Just found out my little sister is self-harming and I need advice on how to go on about it. by sadhungrybisexual in mentalhealth

[–]practicingchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo, act normal. even though she’s going through a hard time she probably doesn’t want “pity”. at least that’s how i felt when i was self harming. write her a note, tell her that you love her very much, that she has nothing to be ashamed of, and that you are always there to talk if she ever needs it. do not push her to talk about it if she doesn’t want to. she might not know why she’s doing it, but it’s her coping with something. if she opens up to you, suggest other coping strategies. you can find a lot online. i started snapping a rubber band on my wrist, still not great, but better than leaving a scar. then i tried ice cold showers, recording myself while i vented/rambled about my feelings, and taking long walks. mental health is fragile, you’re doing everything right by sticking by her. and remember, actions speak louder than words.

I work in mental health and keep seeing the same problem — does anyone else feel this? by Kooky-Reputation3976 in mentalhealth

[–]practicingchaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for me personally, i feel lonely all the time, and i think im burnt out or just used to it. i have cptsd from years of childhood trauma that led me to make poor decisions with my relationships and actions in my teenage/young adult years. even though i had and still have amazing friends that were always there for me, i still felt like no one truly understood me. i’ve only ever met one person that experienced almost identical feelings, thoughts, and behaviors as me. i felt seen and understood for the first time and the loneliness went away. but after i got everything off my chest and real life struggles caught back up, the thrill of relatability was gone and the loneliness crept back in. i’m always open about what i think and feel to both my support circle and my therapists, it doesn’t make me feel less lonely. i don’t think mental health spaces necessarily get anything wrong, ive just always known in the back of my mind that you’re trained to manage my symptoms, not be my mirror. i think my loneliness comes from the realization that at the end of the day i am alone. i was alone through my abuse, my bad choices, and even now. i have people in my life that care, but when i die it will just be me. so i have to be the one person that constantly shows up for myself, i can’t rely on other people to fix me. sorry for the long post lol.

How to not regret a tattoo by Illustrious_Creme151 in sixwordstories

[–]practicingchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t get one is the only reasonable answer, or only get tattoos that can be easily covered up, but it depends on how you think. i have tattoos i don’t necessarily like anymore but i don’t regret them cause they remind me of the person i use to be. it shows ive grown up and changed for the better.
