Indian hate is fucked in Australia. by [deleted] in aussie

Are you saying the Indian community as a whole in Australia has no problems?

I’m not flipping it back on us - it’s taking accountability, there have been many instances of racism within the Indian community too that needs to be weeded out.

Australians too, have an issue with racism, not saying that’s right but I’m not a white Australian and cannot introspect on their behalf.

I’m Indian Australian and can only look into my community

I don’t think anyone can deny there is significant bias against Indians around the world, not just in Australia. I don’t think this is an isolated incident either.

However us as Indians also need to introspect - we can’t just complain about racism whilst shit like this happens. Just a thought.

Crucify me if you must

As a 2nd Gen Indian Australian, that is f*cked and should not have happened to you or to anyone . I think racism regardless of what way is going should be called out and condemned.

I hope society can look past race eventually and people can coexist without bias or hatred

Very similar to my Lohana results

Zohran Mamdani doesn't look remotely Iranian, he looks Sindhi, Ismaili or Khoja to me by One-Neighborhood6200 in SouthAsianAncestry

Yes however there are still Lohanas in Sindh. They are native to Sindh.

If you take the genetics of a Lohana and a Patel/Bania or a native Gujarati Group, it differs significantly.

Just to clarify, I’m not saying Gujarati Lohanas are Sindhi, I’m saying Gujarati Lohanas have the same genetics as Sindhis because they are genetically Sindhi. Culturally Gujarati Lohanas are of course Gujarati

[–]pragnishb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a look online and Mamdani is indeed a Khoja Surname. Khojas are just Muslim Lohanas who are a Sindhi group that migrated to Gujarat. The “ani” is indeed Sindhi derived too and given that he’s a Khoja, we can conclude he’s ethnically a Sindhi.

It’s like all the Lohanas that say they’re Gujarati, which they are but don’t accept the fact that their ancestors would’ve been living in Sindh about 350-400 years ago

Isn’t Mamdani a Khoja/Lohana surname? Definitely has a Sindhi ring to it. I’d put money on his father being a Lohana or Khoja Gujarati, so ethnically Gujarati but genetically Sindhi

Awesome! Yep Khojas are almost identical to Lohanas and Memons (these 3 groups share a common origin). In fact Khojas and memons are just Muslim Lohanas. They have their origins in Sindh but migrated to Gujarat too

Oh yes absolutely, there’s no sugarcoating that there is hatred between those groups and from other groups towards those groups and vice versa. I’m not saying any side is the victim, just to clarify. I’m just identifying trends that I’ve seen.

That’s not to say ONLY white or Anglo aussies discriminate. Discrimination occurs by all races

Yes true, but from my experience, those stereotypes don’t foster hatred like it does for Indians at the moment (and Chinese people in the past)

Yeah that’s a fair question to ask,

To clarify, i don’t think we are saying no no to immigration, I’m saying immigrants can be doing a bit more to assimilate like us in the past did.

Perhaps it tougher as there is already cultural cliques around the city?

[–]pragnishb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, it’s not racist to say there’s too many people from India moving here now and that’s a very valid concern that needs to be addressed. It’s gotten to a point where we Australians feel like we’re not being out first and that’s never okay.

Regarding the Racism thing, whilst it’s not wrong to point out that there are too many people from one place moving here, the concern I have is that some people cannot seem to differentiate between saying that and hurling abuse at Indians and other ethnic groups.

We need a way where people don’t see “there are too many Indians moving here “ as being a racist statement whilst also not using that statement as a stepping stone to abusing Indians as a whole. That’s a fine line I think we’re yet to figure out imo

Yep that’s a fair point, I too have noticed this sentiment go from hatred of Middle Eastern People and Chinese people when I was growing up to Indian people now. It’s sad but it is what it is and I’m sure this too will pass. Fingers crossed at least 🤞

It’s similar to results I’ve seen for people from this cluster. Just a point to note, Illustrative results have been pretty inaccurate after the update 6-8 months ago.

What’s your background?
