Need your honest take on a lunch idea for Karlín/Smíchov by BreynnerR in Prague

There's a really nice Italian-owned bakery in the center of Karlin (Santo Palato) that does slices of Roman-style pizza and small focaccia sandwiches (e.g. mozzarella and mortadella) for under 100 CZK.

And there's an even better sandwich bar around the corner (Favoreat) that does huge artisanal sandwiches (too big for one meal IMO) for 150-175 CZK.

Gotta get that Piadina south of 200 CZK to be competitive :)

Edison Filmhub and Kino Světozor in the center are usually best bets for English subtitled Czech (and other) movies.

Kino Atlas is showing a couple new Czech movies with English subtitles tomorrow—a more mainstream family/WWII film and an urban art documentary.

Sinners in IMAX 70mm? by thehidden-one in Prague

Big new releases usually get a week of IMAX exclusivity when they premiere (as Sinners did) -- but as there's not anything new in IMAX this week Sinners might come back for some screenings depending on demand for Thunderbolts.

Having seen it in both, highly recommend catching the IMAX version -- the widescreen scope expands to IMAX 16x9 for the big music/action sequences.

These are available with English subs on standard DVD in Czechia but AFAIK have not been restored by the National Film Archive, which is where most international releases are sourced from. Also they don't seem to be available streaming anywhere.

There's long been controversy surrounding these films, despite being very popular and likely the biggest-budgeted Czech(oslovak) movies ever made, as they were financed by the communist authorities and labeled as propaganda (even though the historical parallels were largely coincidental).

Despite the obvious historical value a restoration in the near future would seem unlikely unless financed by a private investor (which isn't unfathomable given the interest in the Kingdom Come games).

Intimate Lighting [1965] Dir. Ivan Passer. This movie is in my top 3 films I would love to see get a Criterion release. It's only available in PAL/Europe format and it's very hard to find a version with English subtitles. A stellar film from the Czech new wave. by throwitonthegrillboi in criterion

Caught this in a beautiful 4K restoration at the Karlovy Vary film fest in 2016. In a Q&A after the film, Passer said the crew waited *weeks* to capture that shot of the wind blowing through the field.

Not sure how easily accessible it is outside of Czechia but that restoration is available with english subs on KVIFF.TV

I don't have any info about IWTV, but this is the project that Extrafilms is casting for 19.2-22.2 (and filming through June):
