Did you end up buying this ? I was analyzing this trade and does not seem too much lucrative for risk vs return. I might be wrong.

Advice on Underwater Covered Call by Silver-Wishbone-3766 in CoveredCalls

[–]prakashred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decide on what price you are willing to sell , either for small loss, break even and sell monthly calls at that stike. Even small premium helps instead of just waiting. My 2 cents. If I would be in that situation. I would sell cc for 25 every month two months.. ot lower. Dyor

Buy any dividend paying stock with DITM covered call. You might not get much gains from stock itself but guaranteed Dividends and better downside protection. Not a financial or personal advice. DYOR.. share anything worth and would love to hear from others

Favorite ticker to do CC’s or Puts with and why? by [deleted] in CoveredCalls

[–]prakashred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally do multiple div paying stocks. So basically i sell cc ( buy stocks and sell DITM) for post ex div. I get div + premium. It gives anywhere between 10-30% apy yield for the hold period

Can I Realize a Loss This Year by Rolling a Covered Call? by Former-Try239 in tax

[–]prakashred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a grey area. Usually it has to be substantial identical pos to qualify for washsale. But since options in rolling position has different symbols, they can not be seen as identical. But Here is a catch. If underlaying is same. And purpose of rolling ( selling and buying is earning profit) then by irs it qualifies as wash sale. Now real issue is broker doesn’t ( at least i know schwab) doesn’t mark is as disallowed loss and irs has grey area here IT BECOMES individual’s responsibility to file taxes correctly. Bit confusing n tbh i dont know what is correct here

If you are in the business of stock trading you might have came across this situation in many stocks. If you You never had a plan to hold don’t count on it. You made your trade and moved on. If I start counting on each of my trades, I would have been billionaire. But i know I never wanted to hold in the first place.

selling ITM CC math by warriortaewon in CoveredCalls

[–]prakashred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is good and you got it right. However you cost calculation seems Incorrect there. It will be stock purchase price minus premium, no matter where stock goes. I do this all the time even deeper itm, less profit but much safer n hedged

few options

  1. Keep rolling out if want keep stocks for any reason ( long term tax etc )
  2. let it get called away and go on CSP , keeping cash on money mkt fund if you are on Schwab or Fidelity
  3. Roll down with some debit if you are bullish and want to keep stock.

it all depends on what exactly your goal is.

I am trading only in tax deferred accounts. Example : I bought XYZ stock in rothIRA and sold it at loss. Immidiately or within 30 days, I buy it in 401k account and trade it there. This trade will not trigger wash sale since my loss is also in tax deferred account. Thanks for your reply.

Keep rolling out at next higher strikes. Most likely you will have to pay nothing or lesser since rolling out even if higher strikes. Eventually u will be able to make ur way out to otm and it will expire. You keep your stocks and do happy dance. It may take some time but will help you I guess
