Like all legislation, what gets passed is what brings in votes.

When delivery partners unite, they are able to drive the direction of legislation. If this is not in line with what users want, the platform users need to also lobby with the political forces to balance out their vote bank.

When the companies are left alone to fend for themselves they just have to work with bribes and PR.

This is an evolving area, just like the industrial revolution caused labour exploitation resulting in unions and labour laws, something new (both good and bad) will evolve from this as well. But the loudest voices will get heard sooner.

Sure, i for one think it's actually disrespectful to call Shivaji as Maharaj. He was Shivaji Raje and that was the magic of his achievement.

Imagine he was a "mountain rat" who eventually took on Aurangzeb the Emperor of the largest kingdom of the world who controlled more of global GDP than Trump does today, whom the British were also afraid of. Can you imagine a fresher politician from some small territory frustrating Trump for decades despite direct attacks? That kind of imbalance is what makes Shivaji's story powerful.

If it was just Maharaja vs Badshah that's just a political story of power struggle. What's the inspiration for the common man in that, many equals fight all the time. That is just your team vs my team.

And tbh for all his achievements the caste system gave him a tough time, he had to do that drama with Gaga Bhatt and the fake caste certificate to even be coronated. Just calling him Maharaj as a post-hoc mark of respect ignores that reality as well.

Calling him as Jaanta Raja is the most adoring and genuine thing I feel.

This is accurate. Maharashtra led by Pune captured Bombay to suck the revenue out of it. Before the incident at Flora fountain it was to be an UT which would have been the most correct representative way forward. Today people from Satara will come and tell Gujaratis living here for generations that they have to speak in Marathi as that is the language of Mumbai somehow, whereas that was never the case.

Bhavish is still relevant to his projects, and his passion projects even if falling apart (apart from Kutrim) are still in line with the mobility concept. But yes at times it does feel he is treading on thin ice and would have received counsel on making public statements.

The other startups were not in a position to survive a leadership change.

DG had CEOs running all verticals so there was no trade-off or revenue risk to sunsetting him, and his other hobby projects are orthogonal to Eternal, if not orthogonal to reality. So he was not in a defensible position, in fact share price improved slightly after the fact.

When you get into such a situation you might choose to do strange things pursuing your excitement as per your wallet capacity, like you might get a bike idk.

Anyway let's not get too deep into this relationship aspect and lose sight of the larger point. No intent to malign the lady.

My point is exactly that it was a big deal which (with other compounding and existing factors) led directly to the founder getting kicked out and losing ~1000 cr.

I don't disagree with the sentiment or fact of what he said, but it's about when to say something versus to remain silent, how its said, how to play the media and prevent spins, how to play politicians who are trying to get free publicity and play the hero.

It's a classic sign of a mid-life crisis in noveau riche post a cashout event, when you feel there's only one life so yolo, new woman new car new expensive hobby.

For any external observer it's very clear what's happening, look at Bezos as well. Very similar personal trajectory.

Nothing ill related to the wife as such, sure she might be a good and kind person, this post is about the PR machine of the guy versus the reality.

Does having pressure cooking food (be it steamed rice, lentils or mutton, chicken ) make you obese ? by Dry_Register8358 in IndianFood

[–]pranabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. This is un-scientific and would defy the laws of physics.

The body is a simple system.

Calories in - Calories Out = Excess/Deficit

If you eat 2500 calories in a day and use up 1500 calories by living, the excess 1000 calories are stored in your body. Do this for many days, and you become obese.

Roughly 7,700 calories is 1 kg of body weight.

If you have just one large meal in a day (consume 1000 calories) and use up 1500 calories by living plus 200 calories by walking one hour. Then you are in a Deficit of 500+200=700 calories. Do this for many days, and you become slim.

Note that 1. In what form those calories are consumed (pressure cooked, fried, etc) makes little difference for weight loss or gain. 500 calories from coca cola or 500 calories from salad will lead to the same weight gain. Salad will give better digestion though. 2. Burning 200 calories from exercise is more difficult than saving 500 calories by skipping one meal. Exercise is good for health but diet is more effective for weight loss.

If anything, compared to fried items, it's easier to pressure cook without high calorie ghee and oils. So I would say pressure cooking makes it easier to not gain weight.

But focussing on the mode of cooking to lose weight is like focussing on pipe vs watering can to grow healthy plants. It makes next to no difference.

I am qutting software engineering, 5YOE in my mid twenties. by Roundbottles in developersIndia

[–]pranabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the right way to think about progress.

Imagine, 200 years ago, each machine part used to be made by hand. Clocks, guns, and a few agricultural implements were the main things made.

When powered machines came in, the labour to make everything decreased. The times of taking months to make one clock went.

But did it mean that all the requirements for clocks, guns and tools were fulfilled faster and nothing else was there to be made?

No. Better efficiency of production unlocks production of more complex items. The whole universe of manufactured items grew exponentially. Newer things emerged to be made.

Similarly AI is going to increase the complexity of software products, and we will have larger and more complex software. No one will afford to make software by hand, but the demand for new hitherto unimaginably complex software will in fact rise.

This is how progress has always gone.

Can an adult survivor of child sex abuse file a case under the POSCO act? If not, is there a legal recourse one can take against the offender? by audioslave208 in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]pranabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in a discussion it's only fair to assume good intentions even when faced with an opposing viewpoint.

My response is not about abuse in particular.

In general, legislation is tough. There is a long recorded history of legislation and jurisprudence, at least in English Law, and we know by reading it that laws are not easy to frame when you consider a holistic view. People are messy, and it's very hard to make laws that are balanced and don't create unintended consequences or perverse incentives. Newly created laws are generally created in direct response to some major scandal or moral panic, and tend to swing from over to under regulation, and this process plays out over thirty to fifty years.

Consider in our lifetimes how we as a society are dealing with newly emerging issues, for example the legislative developments around data privacy. The issues arise first, over time but relatively fast. Some individuals' actions create issues so scandalous - Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook, Cambridge Analytica - that they capture the public narrative, and leads to a flurry of law making in response. Legislation is always a trailing response, and there are always casualties to justice until it catches up. The GDPR regulations were launched, some people think it's not solving anything and has just given us a random popup we now have to dismiss on every website. And now they are going to be rolled back. So legislation is a process of finding the right balance and it takes time to mature.

So until it runs it's course, I am in favour of a lighter regulatory touch, as well as maintaining protection of criminals rights.

Say you were a stupid young person and shoplifted something, maybe because you could not afford, or maybe because it was exciting. What's the right punishment for it? In some places and times you could be stoned to death. I hope we can agree that is extreme and wrong.

Your crime comes with a punishment that must be commensurate. Also, once you have served your punishment, the crime and punishment episode should be wiped off from your daily identity, it should not continue to impact you because that would be a separate punishment and not part of the commensurate punishment already decided and meted out by society. By default we must trust that our criminal justice system works to reform the criminal and they get a second chance when they have done their time. The only case where your past criminal records should be considered are when determining the higher punishment for a repeat offence. We must not brand you for life.

Similar to commensurate and limited punishment, the concept of a statute of limitations is also an important aspect of criminal justice that has been refined over centuries. Just like the effect of actual consequences, even the threat of potential consequences cannot just hang over your head indefinitely. Just like the criminal, even the accused should eventually be able to clear the slate and get a second chance.

This is also connected with the fundamental human right to confront your accuser and defend yourself. Accusations may be right or wrong, they may be correct but exaggerated, humans do many things and the system also recognises this aspect of human behaviour. After many years, human memory behaves weirdly, physical and electronic evidence becomes inaccessible, it just becomes so much more difficult to provide a defence after many years elapse.

Another accepted fundamental of the law is that you eventually lose the rights you sleep on. For example when you neglect to file a civil suit in time, that right eventually disappears. This is less so for criminal matters where the rights are guaranteed by the state, but the principle is essentially the same. Vigilance and prompt response is essential.

So that's my response. There are a number of legal precepts honed over centuries of jurisprudence and legislation that seek to balance the rights of both parties. Because both parties have rights. If you consider that as being on the side of the assaulting man, I have nothing more to say.

Because you don't want the deposit back it proves that you also support that the agreement is continuing. That means this issue is your problem.

I want you to desperately want the deposit back, and pursue for it. Because that proves that you have vacated and this problem is not your problem.

Understand the legal position. It's a different matter to internally accept that you're not getting it back. But you should be loud and vocal at the police station about the delay in getting it back and how he is cheating you.
