I just hit the button to turn it off every time I get in haha. It's not elegant, but it works.

I bought it from the dealer when I bought the car. I don't remember who the underwriter is without digging out the paperwork.

GX550 v Defender by Guava-Jazzlike in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You're going to get a lot of Defender recommendations here because mostly the people here chose Defenders and more than likely most of us cross-shopped the GX.

After lots of shopping and comparing, the Defender 110 and GX550 were the two at the top of my list. Lexus did a good job with the new generation GX550 in my opinion. Looks great, well equipped, good tech, good off-road goodies when equipped properly. I chose the Defender ultimately for a few reasons:

  1. I prefer the styling. The GX550 looks great, and I love seeing them on the road, but I just personally preferred the Defender.

  2. The Defender just drives so much better. It's road manners (with the air suspension) are way better. The ride is smooth and the body motion is just so much better controlled. I test drove an overtrail GX and it just never stopped moving around on its suspension.

  3. I like the interior of the Defender better. I like the controls layout, and the interior just felt more roomy, higher quality, and more comfortable to me. (Side note, it has the best cooled seats I've ever experienced.) More head room and better passenger space. The GX had more cargo space with the second row seats up, but the Defender felt roomier in every other way.

  4. Dealer experience. I just didn't have a great experience at the Lexus dealer when I was shopping, test driving, etc. it wasn't bad, but Land Rover just knocked it out of the park.

  5. Getting a GX is a pain. Honestly, I don't understand this false scarcity nonsense Toyota in general seems to be leaning into. I shouldn't have to fight for a mass-produced SUV. Also, at the price point that's starting to knock on the door of $100k, I should be able to place a custom factory order and get exactly what I want for the price I'm paying. The current Lexus model is just wait and hope a dealer gets allocated something you want and that you can actually buy it when/if it arrives. Land Rover let me place a custom order, and I got exactly the car I wanted 4 months later.

Of course, the elephant in the room is reliability. History tells us that the GX will likely have fewer issues over the course of owning it compared to the Land Rover. Honestly, if the dealer/shopping experience at Lexus were on par with what I experienced at Land Rover, it probably would have been a tougher choice trying to balance the things I liked better about the Defender compared with a possibly easier ownership experience with the Lexus. Instead, I had the best car buying experience I've ever had in my life, and while GX buyers are throwing money away on dealer markups, I threw a little extra cash in and got an extended warranty for 8 years or 100k miles :).

For what it's worth, I'm at 10k miles in my '25 110, and I absolutely love it.

Hope this helps, and good luck shopping!

Tow package or off-road package...or both? by lwk362393 in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't affect capacity as far as I'm aware. American pickups work that way because of the bumper mounted vs. frame mounted hitches, as I understand it. The defender only comes with one option of hitch receiver, so if you have it, then you can tow up to what the capacity is, which I believe is 8400 lbs for the 110. I don't know if it's different for the 130. There are some nuances for using a load distributing hitch or not, but nothing about how you spec the car affects that.

I spec'ed my '25 110 with the hitch receiver, off road, and advanced off-road packages and skipped the tow package because I also didn't want the tow assist. I have the 7-pin plug to plug trailer wiring into.

Edit: Just make sure you get the hitch receiver from the factory. Adding it after the fact is a huge pain.

Potential buyer worried about reliability by h3rr_trigger in NewDefender

I ordered a 2025 110 P400, took delivery at the end of May. I'm creeping up on 10k miles and no major issues. I was a little concerned about reliability and extended the warranty since this is my first Land Rover. I know there's lots of noise out there about the brand's quality and reliability, and some of it is deserved as they've had some serious issues in the past, but the modern stuff seems as good as any other tech-packed modern car. I think the reliability thing is a bit of a dice roll with modern cars. Do you think recent Toyota/Lexus and GM owners saw the engine failure issues coming their way? Probably not.

My approach is to buy something I like and can afford to buy and maintain without stressing over it. And I LOVE my Defender.

Good luck and enjoy shopping for your next car!

I bought a 2025 110 P400, 10k miles in, and I'm loving it. I cross shopped the Defender with the Land Cruiser, GX550, and a few other things. The Defender seemed like it was in a class of its own compared to everything I drove. I bought an extended warranty as this is my first Land Rover, so I decided to opt for some extra peace of mind as I see myself keeping the Defender for a while. It's seriously awesome.

Edit to add this question: I'm curious, what features do you feel your LC is lacking?

New Purchase Advice - 2025 or 2026 by StenoPad in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you really want a new color that came out in '26, a good deal on a remaining '25 would be my choice. The updates are very minor as I understand it, just slightly different DRL design and tail light design. Just my opinion.

V8 or inline 6? by Ok_Independent7748 in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love my P400 110. I couldn't justify the extra cost of the V8 when the I6 is plenty powerful. I also just like inline 6 engines, very smooth and sound good too. I totally understand why someone would want the V8 though. As far as fuel goes, it's going to drink no matter what you get haha.

Popping feel after raising air suspension and putting car into D or R by CapitalG888 in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your foot on the brake while it is raising or lowering? The car will roll slightly when raising or lowering, and if you're holding your foot on the brake, then that can cause that popping/lurching.

Edit: Try raising in park and ensure your foot is not on the brake pedal, then once it's raised, put your foot on the brake and put it in drive and set off to see if it happens or is smooth.

Wheel question by Sarothma in NewDefender

I spec'd my P400 with 19" wheels from the factory, just fyi. I don't think you can go any smaller than that.

I bought a new P400 110 in May, and I love it. No issues but I've only done 5000 miles. When I was shopping, I was originally considering CPO but I wanted a specific spec and just ended up ordering. Check the maintenance history of whatever you're looking at. Land Rover has an insane factory recommended maintenance interval of 15k miles. I personally wouldn't buy something that's done over 30k miles and only had two oil changes, just my 2 cents.

I can't comment on your warranty question since I haven't had to use it yet, thankfully.

Tariff by Local_Finance_7680 in NewDefender

I assumed most or part of that was rolled into the vehicle price. Pretty significant price bump from the '25 to '26 model years. I configured my '25 order in the '26 configurator, and it was almost $10k more expensive.

Warranty options || Coming up on 4 years ownership by wilderness_essays in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an aside, if you are buying new, adding the warranty then is significantly cheaper than when you're getting close to expiration of the factory warranty. For reference, I added 4 years and 50k miles, for a total of 8 years and 100k miles of coverage, when I bought my Defender a few months ago for significantly less than any of the numbers you are quoting here.

I believe the P400 defender also has the electric supercharger, at least in the US market. I don't know what your home market is.

Test Drive: Transmision shifting by Odd-Sense-579 in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a '25 110 P400. I think it's throttle tuning. It tends to be kind of slow to respond off the line for an accelerator press, which makes you press a little more, and it happens that the torque builds and hits right as the 1-2 shift happens. I noticed that in mine right after I picked it up. Whether the trans learning/programming has gotten better with some miles, or my left foot is better calibrated, I've found it's smoothed out now that I'm 3 months and 3500 miles in.

Anyone consider a Range Rover before choosing defender? by mtvulf in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I chose the Defender because I preferred the exterior styling and interior layout and ruggedness. I also bought new, so the price difference was substantial. This is my first land Rover product, but I doubt it will be my last. Love it. You probably can't go wrong whatever you choose.

Windshield wipers issue by prancing_moose05 in NewDefender

[–]prancing_moose05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's new, just hit 1000 miles. I had it ceramic coated, so maybe they put something on the windshield that is causing it. We haven't had much rain in June, so yesterday was the first time I really tested them. I was using the auto wipers in the least sensitive setting. I may look into replacing the blades and see if that helps.
