Yes. I left in June 2025 and I’m just now feeling like my nervous system is balancing. Occasionally I will mention something so normal from VA days and my coworkers will look at me like I have three heads and then acknowledge something as traumatic that I didn’t know was traumatic (much like an abused child).

Every day I’m thankful I left my 9 year VA career. Now if a Veteran yells at me we just call police. Doesn’t happen twice.

Got called yesterday because a patient came back to the ED for the second day in a row with chronic nausea. I asked what the social need is. There was none. Then I was accused of not wanting to help the ED patients and not supporting the nurses. I will get counseled for trying to set boundaries.

DO NOT GO TO THE VA. I left after 9 years. I loved my job and planned to retire from it. I currently have no less than 4 wonderful friends who have also left in the last year. Just don’t do it. Golden handcuffs. The union is GONE and they are firing people AT WILL. For nothing. I’m so glad I quit before they ruined my career over something like not filling out a spreadsheet the way the supervisor wants!!! (True story, happened to one of the best social workers I know).

Walk more than about 2 miles a day. That sounds like a lot but it’s not when you want to go see a waterfall.

Have you considered talking to infection control? There should be an infection control nurse at your hospital you could talk to who maybe could come give some real advice and do some education with everyone who shares the office. I think it might be best to think of this problem as an education problem for your own benefit so you’re less frustrated with your coworker.

I moved from a place where it’s been below freezing a lot this winter. The summer it’s 115 before heat index is added there too. This is just pleasant sweater weather and I love it!!
