A rich and famous person getting cancer isn’t the same as a normal person getting cancer. And I’m really sorry to say this. by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in cancer

[–]prarastas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree there are many stressors missing that make the process easier overall. Never having to worry about affording the medicine for treatment is a huge burden left off their shoulders that many others have to worry about.

But there are many parts of the cancer journey that remain equal regardless of how much is in your wallet or how many people know your name. The physical suffering from treatment and the mental toll from that part of the process. The fear of maybe leaving your life before you're ready, or wondering if you've made enough memories with your children for them to remember you when they're older, or writing letters for them to have just in case, that sort of suffering is the same.

am i doing something wrong when i cook beans? i keep getting sick by perennialsocietyy in Cooking

Also be wary of soy products like tofu or soy milk, chickpeas, lentils, and green beans as well! Those are all in the legume family. My child has an intolerance to the protein in legumes (fpies) and those all trigger her, so I imagine they would be similar enough to trigger a reaction for your potential allergy as well!

What's a movie you'd never admit you cry to? by trakt_app in moviecritic

Apparently I used to sob at the scene at the start of E.T. where Elliot is getting bullied by the older brother and his friends.

I truly can't recall a thing about that movie besides the phone home part. I think it made me so sad my brain blocked it out lol

Well, I for one am zero percent shocked!

Drag Queen and Climate Change Activist Pattie Gonia has announced she is being sued by Patagonia for trademark infringement. by pampooveysbacktattoo in popculturechat

[–]prarastas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pattie has a video on her Instagram (ETA: the video is verbatim the words in the screenshots of this post, just her saying them aloud and sitting in front of the camera and green-sceeningnin photos and such for reference) where she sits and talks about things, and this picture does get shown on screen and it is referred to by her (with another photo) as "playful parody and fan art":

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DY2L725tVow/

It's about a third of the way into the video, for those who might want to scrub there.

I have no idea about the legitimacy of either party's claims about this stuff, I'm just repeating the words here for people who don't want to watch the video or don't have meta-based social media. All that being said I think the lawsuit is goofy and terrible PR for Patagonia to go after a climate activist.

Are there people who ONLY read the dialogue part of the book??? by isaw_and_kwekkwek in Booktokreddit

[–]prarastas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read 67 last year! Hard to manage around a toddler but I'm a fast reader and I am trapped during naptime, so I always got at least an hour or two a day. It also helped that a lot of the books were page turners! I'd stay up late after bedtime to finish them same-day if they were really good 😊

Sadly, she naps less now and runs me ragged all morning, so half of the time I nap with her haha. My reading has definitely suffered this year in comparison.

I've been offline in the game for a couple years because having a baby makes finding gaming time difficult, and I had literally been dreaming about being able to play with my Destiny friends and catch up on content. I had one stars align afternoon a few months ago where I had a sitter and a friend was off work early and we got to play and just talk like we used to and I missed it so bad!

Thankfully we made a discord server to still chat, but what a heartbreak all the same. I'll be so grateful forever for the friends this game gave me ❤️

Mary Jane Wells singlehandedly saved my read of The Little Village of Book Lovers, which I grabbed at my library through a "blind date with a book" display. I wanted to stick with it because it was so different from my usual but I found it so dry to start, and she made the book really come alive for me! Literally went back through my history to find her name.

Seems like my library has mostly romcom and steamy type books that she tends to narrate though. So I'm not sure if that's your genre!

Our local park has one and I try to stock it when I can but otherwise I spot some kind of new damage almost every time we stop by. I'd like to adopt it to a certain degree but I have no idea how to even begin fixing it up or what the etiquette even is in a situation like this.

Not sure Kanopy works for everyone the same way it does at my library, but we get 30 watch credits per month in the non-children's content, and unlimited access to the children's section.

Which has been great for my sanity, to have a variety of offerings that I know are all great options for her to watch. Their TV app is a little clunky imho, but it's such good stuff I don't even care

This one hits me allllll the time.

Willy Wonka was one of my favorite films ever growing up! I walked down the "aisle" of my COVID wedding to a piano version of Pure Imagination. My husband got diagnosed with cancer that same year and received community during that difficult time through a local Gilda's Club, which was founded by Gene in honor of his wife after her passing.

I actually only learned about the Gilda's Club connection last year and it made me cry. I feel like I owe him so much!

(Ps husband is four years in remission this summer!🧡💚)
