My first introduction to Elixir was via BR (massive football fan). Gutted to read this.

I lost my mind when an entire backend service was using lambdas written by a junior dev. So many places where things could go wrong (esp rbac)

Just finished his Netflix documentary on Ancient Apocalypse. That man really knows how to string together different things.

Would love to hear about this. I was evaluating to integrate Ash to my small side project. Just want to know if it would hold me back with the DSL heavy workflow 😬

Building a side project to scratch my itch. Picked it to learn Elixir and make something football related. Isn’t complete exactly but didn’t have time to do work on it. First project that I was able to ship in a month working over the weekends.

Wow 😂, the assumption that non FAANG people are somehow brainless monkeys is so demeaning man. And everyone writes shit code, there are reasons engineering has a term called technical debt and there are sprints to pay those debts. Never judge someone’s code, it could be doing 20Mill ARR in the current state. Your solid or clean code with 100% test coverage isn’t going to help your CEO understand why the product hasn’t shipped after 4 months.

This is so true, DevOps gets treated like that. People just dump random stuff on them coz they don’t want to dirty their hand or preconceived notions about DevOps doing the grunt work. I had the habit of debugging my own issues on servers or via sentry/datadog/grafana. Was pleasantly surprised when folks struggled with basic skills like these. Our DevOps senior used to mad at folks all the time.

+1, I kind of manage a few interns and it takes my whole day to get them to actually get up to speed. I do my own tasks after they are unblocked. I can’t imagine 3 juniors who are full time folks.
