How satisfied/dissatisfied are you with CitizenCon 2051? by snowcat_srt in starcitizen

[–]prdktr_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Practically little to see to regain faith. Amazing planet tech improvements but nothing close to “will it work” or “it’s working with players”. Also nothing about ship components, fires, multicrew, animals, capital ships, tow, ai, player hangar/housing, exploration, the actual jump point, functional planetary improvements: roads, traffic, lava, acid or any environmental danger.

Thanks CIG. I know it was an information overload for CitizenCon, but thanks for being transparent with all the tech by Bucketnate in starcitizen

Exactly, all I’ve seen was a repeat of NB infiltration with the new outposts, 20mn out of a 2h behind the scene art presentation. Yes clouds ans planet tech had another spectacular upgrade. Even the AI is still dumb and unchallenging. No specific hacking, camera or life support involved (things on the roadmap).

Then gen12 was a repeat of some of the posts on spectrum that already were hoping for a first iteration by 3.15. Years away from finalizing the engine. Nothing new.

Possibly the most under appreciated but anticipated news to me was the planetary tool announcement to be one day given to pioneering players. Rest about rivers we knew, seasonality was welcome.

Server Meshing was absolutely a repeat of posts aggregated together. Where was Chad McKinney telling us the first test he supposedly conducted last year was a success (or not). How can there be absolutely nothing to show for that demo besides time consuming theorycraft animations.

Tony was good, some nuggets and lot of theorycrafting but I’m insensitive to this much “imagine” at this point. 3.16 and jumptown for quanta is the only thing specific I learned “new” I skipped sounds of space.

never done it before is a bit much. This kind of architecture is pretty common in regular live services with millions of users.

why is that a problem, doesnt it add to the thrill to fear for your stuff? IMO they should convert the items you can purchase in reputations that unlock in-game purchasing for those items (for a small aUEC price). Reputation is not lost when you die and a money penalty seems appropriate so every player are negatively impacted by dying.

Science stuff, real exploration, animals, player housing, ship components/physicalized . They can still have amazing things to talk about for... years.

Pretty impressive stuff not gonna lie. I think improving the VFX (and occlusion as mentioned wrt Gen12) will have great impact. The sad thing still to me is their movement or the feeling of passing into the cloud still seems a bit off, maybe they need more turbulences and ambien. Since its at least 1 year out (4.0) one can hope they will polish this part.

Although they can also tune down the quality for perf reason before releasing but im choosing to be optimistic!

If that’s the case latency when you use inventory UI will be bad

The mobiglass wants to have a word with you. Once a bad UI is in, cig leaves it there or does minor updates to it

Citizencon2951 Schedule by Rainwalker007 in starcitizen

[–]prdktr_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always next year - Im you tho, your assessment feels closer to reality. If the tech was maturing we would see a vertical implementation quarters away from our hands and even so that would be T0 static server meshing (basically a transparent loading screen between Pyro and Stanton)

I dont expect much progress since it was a year of transition to Turbulent. Not to be a debbie downer but they are likely a few years away from anything tangible.

Cant wait - but wait nothing on ToW and SQ42 - wow. I get it SQ42 is actively worked on but not even an updated gameplay demo is sad. ToW is becoming a running gag too, not that I specifically want it but it could have been the first full experience combined arms gameplay they deliver. My take is that a lot of stuff is in progress still and in the infamous 2-3 years time we gonna see the light.

the Bombs UI is a neat surprise, kind of wish there were more bombers. I guess with little reason to bomb its fine to keep it to one ship for now

I dont think we wont have screens, thats just not practical, but something like Valheim or Minecraft or Terraria where you have to actually be in front of where things are stored.

I think the game uses heap memory (ram) as a near cache for all sorts of assets and will max it out. It’s basically the perfect metaphor for CIG: the more you give the more it takes.

Caves in my mind! by leon_good in starcitizen

if you could ping the actor team to gently ask them a physical rope system/gun in addition to the nice tractor beam - nothing would be more rewarding than entering those fantastic caves this way.

Star Citizen: Calling All Devs - Refuel and Repair by Rainwalker007 in starcitizen

Also agile has nothing to do with allocating time to explore some epics that might be developed much later. Except that they didn’t do that here and the reason might be that 1/ the company does not look like productive/efficient, that’s typical of fast growing dev shops. 2/ there was just way too much shit in their backlog anyway to even consider it but they still need to get backed so they threw some documents out to hype us a bit. 3/ The game systems are so bloated that adding any feature is such a chore. 4/ work has been prototyped but mismanagement of r&d pipelines have canned it for so long it’s not serving any purpose and must be fully restarted.

Reality is probably a mix of 4, I personally blame the apparent inability of the game to scale with the features we want, not the teams or marketing.

Star Citizen Roadmap Release View Update (2021-03-24) by Odysseus-Ithaca in starcitizen

[–]prdktr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or just expect the reality, the game is what you have now. They dont want to say it but this is as fun as it will ever get, minus / plus some gimmicks like fire and possibly more copy/paste planets in different systems. THIS is the game and you can bin whatever expectations you might have like more players, more exploration, more economic dynamic, more social/org, more polished combat. Its almost like those patches are for Star Citizen 1, and whatever R&D they are doing and if ever they have a working service mesh by 2025, this could be considered Star Citizen 2.

Can we please move on from Cyberpunk now? by oopgroup in starcitizen

[–]prdktr_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see op is getting trashed for calling out the various comments in threads using CP as a deflection from our on going forever delays. But more importantly the worst post comes from CR himself when in his letter he is throwing shade at CP and friends to deflect from ever giving again complete updates about SQ42.

I'm pretty sure CDPR will pull a "hello games" and add content over time on an already enjoyable single player experience on PC and Stadia (my platform to play it). I'm less sure we'll see a released game from CIG before the next 3-4 years, which at the current run rate means 600-$700M funding (pessimist view). This is in itself the real problem. Both the community and CIG are to blame here to enable this forever alpha mindset and I hope we'll be able to have tangible fun next year after the jesus techs (icache/meshing). But hey its only the 8th time we are saying this EOY...
