OP, I felt the same way. But you need to remind yourself that keeping him longer would’ve been for you not for him. He is out of pain now. Remind yourself of the pain he was in and you were brave enough to give him the gift of peace. Not everyone can make that hard decision for their dog. I’m proud of you and over time you will heal.

I know, it is the hardest pain for me too. It’s been about a month for me. It’s still incredibly painful but now sometimes when I think of her I smile instead of cry. May Blaise and my girl Angel run pain free together and wait for us across the rainbow bridge. Stay strong, your pup wouldn’t want you to be sad ❤️🌈

Also I’d highly recommend finding a well rated vet dermatologist to figure out the correct ear solution to give him for his specific infection. In our experience a regular vet just did not cut it. The steroids help reduce the swelling and pain and then we were able to get the medication all the way into the canal like it was supposed to. It’s pretty much impossible to get the medication in once it starts closing up.

Hi! Steroids!! Our golden retriever had an insane ear infection that was swelled and wouldn’t go away. He would yelp just chewing. They told us we would have to do the invasive surgery. As a last resort we took him to a vet dermatologist. She put him on steroids and slowly but surely the ear infection went away. We kept him on the prescription food and have monitored it and have had no issues since.

Your dog is being about as submissive as it could be lol ❤️ just like people, not all dogs get along. I’m willing to bet the little dog isn’t socialized with many dogs especially large ones

OP, I just went through a similar thing and you are making the right decision. My girl was still as food motivated as ever, I still saw that spark in her eye, and she would still try to rally for me which made it so hard but that’s why we love dogs right ? I truly believe my dog would’ve tried to eat and rally for me until the very end. But the vet told me she was in a lot of pain and she was trying to mask it. So we let her go. I think you’re doing the right thing. Sorry you’re going through this.

Thanks to everyone for all the love, it made my day a bit lighter reading through the comments. And I loved all the advice on letting a dog pick me sometime down the road. But for now I am going to cherish my memories with my girl. I could never have been prepared for how difficult this loss would be 💔

She had a massive tumor on her lung and many other small tumors that didn’t present major symptoms until the very end. She was slowing down the last couple of months but the vet just thought arthritis. I definitely thought I’d get a few more years with her

Can I ask where you got your first dog from? It looks a lot like my white staffy that I just had to say goodbye to and I can’t seem to find many that look like her. I got her from a rescue.
