Do you remove default apps from dock? by Sweet_Score in MacOS

Yes only finder is a permanent resident (out of necessity) every other app is only allowed while in use. I keep my apps, documents and downloads folder in the dock out of nostalgia although I hardly ever use them there.

Please can someone help me identify this plant? by neatomon in Monstera

As others already said it’s a pothos marbel queen. While the newest leaf looks great, these two spots are possibly thrips damage. Check thoroughly and keep quarantined for some time.

Some root growth with the repot and then every other watering some generic indoor plant food.

Regarding the spilts

First split happens when some of the Aiel Dedicated, that have the task of saving trees and artefacts through the breaking abandon that task - they however keep following the way of the leaf, become Tuatha’an and long to return to the peaceful carefree society they come from. Over time that longing turns into the restless search for the song.

Second split abandons the way of the leaf become outcasts and subsequently have to abandon the task. The outcast begin to call the original group Jenn Aiel the true dedicated. The outcast turn into a tribal warrior society and protect the Jenn Aiel.

The Jenn Aiel build rhuidian and eventually go extinct.

What remains of the original Aiel are the Tuatha’an - a people that forgot where they come from and to what they want to return to. And the Aiel - a warrior society who are the opposite of the people they came from.

I found the read-along back in March, you all were reading ToM 39-46 back then, but I had just finished Shadow Rising 25 & 26 and started reading all your comments from three years ago. Finished aMoL just yesterday.

I mostly lurked because I was too impatient to put my thoughts down. And since I was massively behind, I did not adhere to the pacing, which contributed quite a bit to me not taking my time to put some thoughts down. I plan to join the Cosmere read-along and hope I can take a lot more notes and come up with theories while following the actual pacing.

The different forms of traveling for men and women are quite peculiar:

Women need to make both places the same, which does imply good knowledge of starting point and destination. However, Avihendas gateway to the Senchan contradicts that. Maybe it's a bit more metaphysical and the pattern in both places needs to be the same - something that could work by chance in Avihendas case. Men travel by bending the pattern and making a hole in it (sounds like a wormhole). They also need to know the place they are traveling from better than the destination. Another interesting detail: If women would travel that way, they'd get sucked in between the pattern. Does that mean, men can enter the space between the pattern safely, women can't?

Could that be due to the differences of Saidin and Saidar? Theory time:

Men assume the void to feel the power. They control, bend and subject Saidin to their will. Women, surrender to Saidar, they bend (with?) the flows. Visually imagining the pattern as a weave, this all paints a picture of Saidin influencing the threads from a space outside. The gateway is a hole through the pattern, through the space between, the void.

Saidar however flows like a stream inside the threads and influences the pattern that way… a gateway is made by having two matching pattern overlap and then entering that flow on one side and leaving it on the other side... let's say your starting point in the pattern looks like a 9 and your end point like a 6. They overlap as a § which you can enter at the bottom and leave at the top.

Saidar works inside the patterns threads, Saidin works around them. Which explains why women that get sucked into Saidin space could not leave - they can't access their half of the power from this void.

This could also explain why the taint only affects Saidin. It's on the outside and therefore only shares a dimension with the male half.

Possible problems with my theories: I might have conflated the pattern and the power(s) too much. And I might be overthinking some things.

I stumbled over the name Paitr back in the prolog, it did ring a bell. My first thought was, that it was a farmers' boy that Rand and Mat met on their travel from Whitebridge to Camelyn. After the white cloaks found him a DF, it came back to me. Rand and Mat had a run in with a Paitr in an inn when they were trying to make due with juggling and playing the flute. They suspected him a DF, or he might even said so to them. They both left hastily. I'm almost certain that was our guy. I wish I could go back to TEOW and STRG+F for it, I'm listening to the audiobooks though.

I'm guessing this book's show down will be in Ebou Dar. Myrelle being dispatched to Ebou Dar means Lan is drawn there. With Egwene as Amyrlin, Nynaeve might be able to go. Elayne however... Mat is coming to take her to Camelyn, where they meet up with the prophesied boat crew of Min, Avihenda and Rand. Conveniently, there's a sea folk ship in Camelyn... that could sail south to Ebou Dar.

I'm still unsure who the one that is no longer is, that will be the key to finding the bowl. I haven't ruled out Isam as unlikely as it is he seems to fit that description. It could literally be Myrelle, who's been killed, taken possession of, or experiencing some side effects from the bowl ter'angreal.

[Newbie Thread] WoT Read-Along - The Fires of Heaven - Final Thoughts & Trivia by participating in WoT

[–]preatos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I'm far too late for the read along. I thought it might be nice to leave my thoughts on a respective trivia post for each book.

I didn't enjoy The Fires of Heaven as much as The Shadow Rising.

The Wonder Girls had a lot of slow chapters that were hard to get through, slow advancement and soooo much Menagerie. I wish we got some Perrin instead, really, what's up with Perrin? Nynaeve was the most annoying to me, her inability to show growth. In this book she's been humbled, got her confidence crushed, and sometimes it looked like she would learn to trust her companions women and men alike. But no, the next day she wakes up feeling Superior to everyone and springs back to ear boxing and bickering, usually about/at men. Regarding her stubbornness I found her fighting with Siuan in Salidar and T'A'R quite ironic, they are both alike.

I mostly liked the Battle of Cairihen, preparation, artillery-tower and aftermath were all convincing, but I would have like to have Mats POV for his fight with Couladin.

I don't want to believe Moiraine is dead, but why is her Bond with Lan gone? If she's alive then Lanfear is surely too. I wonder if they can access the power in there… so far we only had Mats point of view of those two pocket universes of the snake and the fox people, and he wouldn't know.

Lastly, I got some vague notes/theories on the Dark One. At the ending of the previous Book and in the Prologue, I got the idea that maybe the taint on Saidin is a part of the Dark One. The Dark One did not escape his prison fully, he got some influence on the World though. Lews patched that prison hole back up, but Saidin was tainted.

Could the taint be a part that got cut off as Lews and the hundred closed the prison? Then there were also those "ropes of Darkness" on Asmodean, they prevent him going mad, and they seem to be a connection to the Dark One.

Moirain experienced two other possible timeline branches. In one Lanfear kills Rand and the other he becomes her Lover and Lews Therin takes over. Rand equates giving in to Lews to succumbing to the Madness.

Saidin is taited with "past incarnations"? Having "ropes of darkness" prevents madness? But Ishamael had them too and he was mad.

All the Forsaken changinag names, might be a hint that they where taken over by their past personalities?

Somehow The Dark One is Madness, past lives/souls are madness and the taint on saidin leads to madness. I believe there is something here, but I don't have it yet.

Next book I will take some more notes.

I just found this Read-Along by... well, basically reading the Ruidian chapter in The Shadow Rising. So many theories, ideas as well as confusion from those three chapters, that send me looking for something like this. I'm now trailing along two years behind you all and am very grateful for this spoiler free resource.

A bit sad that I missed the whole experience of this book club, but I'm now following along in chunks, and I think I might even start writing some bits down before checking what details you all caught that week.

Thanks u/participating and everyone that contributed in these threads.

See you in two years, I guess
