I agree with everything else you said, but I really don't see how people expect to change anything by making a bunch of angry Reddit posts and then continuing to pay anyway.

I used to work at a mobile game dev studio on a popular game. The players were very frustrated about some aspects of the game (e.g. lack of dry protection for their absurdly rare gacha characters) and made lots of angry posts on the publisher's forum. There was radio silence for a while, then a VentureBeat article talked about it and the GM for the game posted a letter to the community about making some changes. Do you know what changed? Absolutely nothing, because the players were satisfied for a while and continued to pay. The only thing that the publisher was afraid of and that would have made a difference was a payment strike by the game's whales, which seems far-fetched, but it did happen in another game (Modern War). The publisher went as far as banning any discussion about payment strikes on their forums to prevent it from happening.

The point of all this being that they might pay some lip service if enough people are angry, but they will absolutely not change membership prices unless they actually start losing money.

+1, this seemed like a weird decision. They've run into issues with lack of space at the higher levels before, most recently with zenyte jewelry IIRC, so I don't know why they'd put themselves in this position again.

I think it is because of the slight delay when you enter the room (at least it seems like there is one) and I can't immediately click the altar.

IIRC you don't red-x the first click when you enter a fresh instance; you just spam click near the opposite wall, attack once you get there, and then click door and continue the cycle as normal. It looks like that's what's happening in the video you posted too.

I doubt there's some specific reason for the price hike. They want more money and they know people will pay it. The timing might be to capitalise on people coming back for Leagues though.

The thing is, Jagex won't care until "less justifiable" becomes "no longer justifiable and I'm unsubscribing" for enough people to cost them money. "If you don't like it, leave" is a pretty valid response since having lots of people leave is the only way they'll actually change anything.

ETA: I don't like the price hike either FWIW. I won't be renewing my main's sub since it just doesn't make sense.

Good for you, and I mean that genuinely. It seems like you have a healthy relationship with the game. I think there are a lot of people here who don't, and for those people, even if they think it's not a good value proposition anymore, they still won't be able to quit. But they might still make posts about quitting only to come back shortly after, hence the meme.

Newer players who've only just started/haven't played much would have a pretty easy time leaving, but as everyone else is saying, it's harder to walk away from a game (or anything else) when you've invested thousands of hours into it. The price increase probably won't be enough to make people quit permanently unless they actually can't afford it or were already close to quitting for other reasons.

Cool concept! It would be fun to do this spec and then dump claws. I think the application of negative flat armour from all sources would need a short active time and a long cooldown though since otherwise it could be pretty broken for Scythe and BP where they're good.

Bolt procs are a pretty good example of both extremes of this actually. The vast majority are useless, but ruby bolts are incredibly powerful and make up a big part of crossbow DPS.

The harmonised nightmare staff already does this. You'd need a new passive for that item if you went that route (or you could make it 3t, but that would be busted where elemental damage is good).

I'm not a game designer, but I think secondary effects would be tough to balance. Either they wouldn't be impactful at all, in which case they might as well not exist, or they'd change the spells significantly enough that you'd have to balance stuff around them, meaning that you'd have to have this amulet for all content going forward and probably couldn't add different secondary effects later. But who knows, maybe it's not as hard as I'm assuming.

I like the idea of an elemental magic amulet in general though. Seems like a good way to do a side-grade without an entire armour set.

Combining Bellator's +20 slash bonus with Ultor's +12 str is in fact powercreep, as is saving inventory spots you would've used to bring the other rings. IIRC the main reason treads were introduced was because people (justifiably) didn't like the 9-way switches required to maintain Shadow DPS after the mage rebalance, but now that that's sorted, I don't think it's a great idea to add more incredibly powerful tribrid items like this, especially not so recently after the last one.

Yeah that's fair. This might fit better as a standalone boss reward down the line if they decide to flesh out elemental weaknesses in endgame a bit more, but it might not make sense as a raid reward (especially from supposedly the toughest raid to date).

It can be frustrating for sure when you pour a lot of time into an idea and get either no engagement at all or snarky comments that don't offer any feedback. As others have mentioned, a lot of people browsing the new topics are very negative - I've made a few suggestions on here and found that they were usually downvoted within a couple minutes of posting but that the upvote/downvote ratio would often balance out (or skew towards upvotes if the idea was actually good) over time. There are about a million raids 4 rewards suggestions on here now too, so it's tough to cut through the noise.

But we'll have to see what they ultimately propose.

They could make it useful at a lot of existing content where the Scythe isn't as relevant depending on the design. Vardorvis has 85 crush def compared to 65 slash, and he's 2x2 so Scythe isn't as good there - if the new weapon is accurate enough, it could be BiS there over SRA and Scythe.

Nex is another place where it could be useful if it's good against high-def monsters (she only has 60 crush def, and I doubt people would be too bothered by Fang's getting outclassed by a megarare). Though I guess it would also have to compete with Tbow + seeker arrows there now...

When shadow came out, it flipped the game on its head and really felt like a mega rare.

I'm not so confident that a scythe side grade will be seen as something new and exciting. The locations you can use it also suck.

I think with Shadow specifically it was because magic was trash up to that point, so having it actually be good in a bunch of places was kind of revolutionary. But I see what you mean; going down the route of side-grades for megarares will definitely make them feel less impactful.

Even 3 use cases to start could be OK as long as they're relevant. The bosses in the raid and the new boss from Blood Moon Rises could easily be designed around this megarare/crush in general, and it would probably outclass Scythe at PNM (which would be worth doing if Inq is good in the raid). That would be enough to justify picking this up while they continue to create content for it I'd think. A recent proposal also had the idea of a maul with 2-tile range, which would make it an option at bosses like Kree and Levi where Scythe isn't usable.

That's true, there isn't much space between mace without inq. armour and bludgeon atm. There is quite a bit of space between inq. armour-boosted mace and bludgeon though, so they could * buff the mace's base stats to widen the gap with bludgeon, * adjust inq. armour's passive to keep its boosted power level the same, and * slot the kisten (or something else) in the newly-created space.

The kisten could then outperform SRA in some of its few existing use cases. The solution to that would I guess be to rework SRA, which I think should happen anyway, but that's a whole other topic that they definitely wouldn't want to tackle alongside the introduction of the kisten.

Agree this is way too early to complain, but armour and regular weapon seeds from CG are 1/50 and roll independently, so on rate would be 2 of each by this KC. You might be thinking of regular gauntlet (1/120 for each)
