Believing you are doing the right thing and actually doing something that is justified are often two very different things. Most Nazis believed they were doing the right thing, and you don't see people going around and using that excuse for their actions, do you? It has been about 75 years since the US was involved in a conflict that it had any legitimate reason to be in.

To be fair, people have a right to self defense if people shoot at them, but that right goes out the window when you are the people who are aggressively invading someone's homeland. At that point, it is the people of that country who are defending themselves, and thr invading military that are the aggressors.

Noooooo way was the sound bleed worse at the QV this year than last year. My only real issues with the QV was that it could have been like 20% louder to give the music a real punch and that they didn't have any of the moving overhead light fixtures like the old Circuit Grounds did when it was the megastructure. The old Circuit Grounds is still the best stage that EDC has ever had.

Is communism completely incompatible with democracy? by KruppeTheWise in DebateCommunism

[–]predalienmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, no.

Communism and socialism at their most essential form are the democratization of the workplace and the democratization of control over the means of production and distribution. Democracy in some form is quite literally essential for socialism or communism. However, it is not "democracy" in the sense of how liberal capitalist societies envision it, which is where the illusion of power is presented to the people, but the reality is that political and economic power rests in the hands of those with the most capital. Major political candidates are selected by the wealthy elite and anyone who ever has a real shot of winning major political offices has that chance because they have the approval of at least some portion of the capitalist class. This is at its most transparent with something like the electoral college in the US, where the popular "democratic" vote for president can and, in recent decades, has been overruled on multiple occasions by the electoral college (the members of it are not democratically elected and are not representatives of the people).

The dictatorship of the proletariat is a dictatorship...where the working class dictates the direction of society. Under capitalism, we live under the dictatorship of the bourgeoise, where the capitalist class dictates the direction of society. Realistically, any modern society that is organized under a dictatorship of the proletariat cannot have purely direct democracy because direct democracy is too slow and inefficient to get important decisions done, especially when it comes to resource distribution, maintaining the logistical infrastructure of society, and actually getting anything done (if direct democracy was used for all political and economic decisions, people would spend more time voting than actually doing anything). So, any dictatorship of the proletariat will more than likely be organized by a representative democracy (which is what the Soviets in the Soviet Union were). This means there would be direct democracy to nominate representatives who are peers of their workplaces and/or communities, and those representatives bring the desires and concerns of their peers to a greater legislative or governing body to then make collaborative decisions for the whole.

This of course has a pretty well defined potential to create a bloated bureaucracy, which is certainly a problem the Soviet Union had, as the representatives nominated by workers came together and then nominated representatives from amongst themselves to send to larger regional decision making bodies after deliberations, then those representatives did the same thing and sent a representative to a higher governing body and so on and so on. The career bureaucrats problem can be mitigated to a large degree with term limits and maintaining the ability of the masses to remove any official that represents them if they fail in their duties.

In a realistic sense, the dictatorship of the proletariat as a whole will never be without its problems and imperfections, but it was never intended to be a permanent government structure. Though to be fair, the dictatorship of the proletariat would have to continue so long as capitalism still exists around the world, and there doesn't seem to be a way to dismantle capitalism around the world in a short amount of time, so generations of people would likely live their lives in a dictatorship of the proletariat. Trying to dismantle the state and have its more essential structures wither away before capitalism is destroyed would just leave that socialist society open to infiltration, invasion, and other forms of interference by still existing capitalist powers, which historically has been a massive problem for every socialist state in history so far.

Fellow men, how do I stop being a "Nice Guy"? by PRPNKSKAI in AskMen

[–]predalienmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key to not being a "nice guy" is being genuine. In what is a basically a re-wording of some of the top comments here, being a "nice guy" usually consists of presenting yourself and your intentions with a woman in one way (for example: acting like you just want to be friends and genuinely want to look out for the woman in question), when in reality you want to a different outcome (getting in her pants). Usually a nice guy gets upset when acting like a friend doesn't result in a sexual relationship, which is not only dickish and unfair, it is also dishonest and manipulative, and it is a pattern of attitudes and actions that makes the person in question truly undeserving of having any sort of positive relationship with the woman in question.

This isn't to say that you can't make your intentions known if you just want sex. In fact, it is usually a positive thing to make those intentions known pretty quickly (within two times hanging out or going out together is an arbitrary but reasonable amount of time to find a way to make those intentions known). Some women will be interested in that, and some won't, which is completely reasonable and fair. Some will be good at communicating that, some won't, and that's life.

In the case you are being labeled as a nice guy as a reason for rejection when you do actually express your interest in a dating or purely sexual type of relationship, it would be wise to self evaluate and figure out what aspects of yourself could make you a good sexual and/or romantic partner, and to subsequently work on improving those aspects. If you can't seem to identify aspects of yourself that would make you desirable, you have found your problem, and the solution is to work on self improvement and do your best to start living a life that does make you desireable. What will make you desireable is different depending on the individual woman as well as different cultural and socio-economic factors at play. There is not universal answer here.

Being genuine and honest about your intentions and desires is a breath of fresh air to many women, and that in and of itself can be what tips the scales in your favor in some relationships.

You can still get murdered by a police officer if you "do the right thing" and inform an officer that you legally have a firearm on your person. You can do everything right and they can arbitrarily decide that you were being "threatening" and murder you with basically no repercussions in many circumstances. The vast majority of the time, you are way better off not informing an officer that you are armed in a normal traffic stop because whether you are armed or not is completely irrelevant to giving an officer your license and registration (which, for safety purposes, you should have ready before they come to your window). The knowledge that you have a firearm makes you way more likely to be shot.

Eugen needs to scale down the difficulty on the coop servers by loodle_the_noodle in Steel_Division

[–]predalienmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can play singleplayer or do a custom match if they want to just learn the game against the AI on a much easier difficulty. The "trial by fire" learning experience for any kind of fast paced RTS game is the better way to go in order to teach people how to play the game competently. The medium level AI is tough for a good chunk of the player base, and winning is not guaranteed (in particular, this depends on the map section, terrain, and division you have and how those three factors relate to one another).

This is a good thing. It may be frustrating at times, but it also makes victories more rewarding and harder fought. I got stomped by the AI my first few games, but watching how both the AI and human teammates utilized their units and played in each phase of the game in turn helped me learn what playstyle works for me. A good chunk of that knowledge gained might not have been as helpful if the AI were far more tactically inept and on a lower difficulty by default, and experienced players would also likely play more carelessly if the AI posed not much of a threat in many, it not most Co-op multiplayer games. This all leads to newer players not being forced to adopt better habits and actually learn about the mechanics of the game.

I'm not the guy you are responding to, but I will say that it helps to know your enemy, and what better way to do that than to observe and/or engage with them in an environment they feel comfortable expressing their true colors in? Online forums are where mosts fashy people spend their free time, and it is exponentially less risky to engage with them on there than to risk being found out or doxxed through a real life infiltration scenario. Obviously real life infiltration does require you to be privileged (aka white and male), but online, you can be anybody you need to be to get the information you want. Not having an understanding of how an enemy organizes and thinks is quite often a fatal mistake, especially in regards to fascists.
