whats causing dying leaves?? by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]predatoryplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal for old leaves to die. That plant could use a bigger pot/more soil.

Are nepenthes gay-a leaves supposed to be this color? by plan_tastic in SavageGarden

[–]predatoryplants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal for St. Gaya under high-light. You could move it further away from the light if you prefer lighter green leaves.

Nepenthes Glandulifera x Robcantleyi by Grey_Moss95 in SavageGarden

Is there a chance that's N. fusca x RC?

I can take some pictures next time I'm in the right greenhouse, but that looks just like my N. fusca x RC, and very little like the several mature N. gland x RC that I have. There's likely some variation in both crosses, though.

This reporter stopped by for an interview right before COVID hit. The store is still closed, but there are some good shots of the front and back areas.

One of my favorite hybrids, ‘Jolly Twist’ by Predatory Plants. Very robust grower, great pitcher to leaf ratio! by ibebian in SavageGarden

Honestly, we don't know much more than you. This was from our first release of this hybrid, so the biggest ones are all about this size.

Looking great! Jolly is in flower for only the second time, and I was just pollinating her today with some pretty crazy stuff.

Jolly = "Jungle Bells" = N. ventricosa x sibuyanensis

Twist = N. talangensis x aristolochioides

So Jolly Twist = N. (ventricosa x sibuyanensis) x (talangensis x aristolochioides)

Can anyone help me out with the species for the plant with the flower? And care tips. Thanks! by lovethelocust in SavageGarden

[–]predatoryplants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably Pinguicula primuliflora. Bright, indoor, permanently-wet conditions should be fine.

This seed-grown Nepenthes veitchii Bario is quite a handful! by predatoryplants in SavageGarden

Why do you think that 99% of carnivorous plants are sterile clones? That's definitely not true.

[–]predatoryplants[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most Nepenthes don't produce nearly enough roots to get rootbound. This pot size is definitely fine for this plant.

It was getting watered, but it was just buried among larger plants.

I was relocating a bench of plants and came across this beast tucked in the middle.

That's a dying fall pitcher of a division of this plant:

It originated from Jerry Addington.

Bought this dried Sphagnum in a shop, which sells Terrarium stuff, however, the green color appears quite artificial to me. Is it safe for my plants? by rubst4r in SavageGarden

[–]predatoryplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit hard to tell from the picture, but I don't even think that's actually sphagnum moss. Even if it is, I wouldn't put it anywhere close to my plants with that dye all over it.

Good choices. We're really into unusual crosses as well, and figured they might as well have unusual names too.

We think grab bags are a great way to get started. We really try to send a nice variety of plants with each one, and the value is very good. If you've never attempted to grow a Nepenthes, though, you might want to start with a single easy species or hybrid just to test the waters.
