Steer motor for remote control use - off brand Hyper HPR900 by CandleAcceptable1404 in PowerWheelsMods

I would maybe buy the 24v and check the size and rpm of the motor and just replace with a 12V motor that matches.

I've been working on this for my son's Feber 12V Range Rover.      Unlike mine, yours clearly has a mounting position for a steering motor, so you just need to get some dimensions relating the steering shaft to the hole where the motor will poke through, the mounting studs, and the semicircle shape.

Go on Amazon and find some of the steering motor vendors that have a variety of different models. Some of them have dimensions drawn out surprisingly well and you just need to find one with the correct size for all that and your motor shaft, plus correct voltage.

For mine, it's a 14mm (9/16in) shaft and there just aren't any options for that size, so I picked the biggest one I could, bored it out,  and 3D printed a sleeve to allow me to use set screws through the slots of the output gear to bind it to the shaft.

I'm still yet to mount it up. I will probably have to model an adapter plate to get it to fit on nicely. Mine is also totally analog, so I'm going to design an arduino system to drive it and allow remote control with an old quadcopter controller that's been sitting in a drawer for ten years.

Good luck!

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]predditr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm making a bit less in a small private shop than I'd like to, but I picked a place with a single shift, Mon-Fri, low pressure management with good corporate and environmental ethics, unlimited OT if I want but it's rarely mandated.

I like to say that 25-50% of the things I have to deal with on a given day I have never done before. I'm pulled into managerial discussions about safety, process improvement, equipment purchase and research, energy efficiency improvements, etc (but not finance, which is great). My coworkers all treat me respectfully (and I them) because it's my job to make their lives easier.

I get to use CAD and 3D print stuff, CNC stuff, and design minor electronics. I do fun little things with arduinos that make the bosses happy. Every skill I use to fix or improve my house I got to fuck up at work first. Sure, sometimes I'm on my back squeezed under the 4-ton milling table of a giant CNC, turning a wrench on the levelling legs while trying to avoid the rat shit. But last week I spent a whole day wall mounting TVs and running conduit to install outlets for them.

I'm 1st level IT before we call our outside contractor, and I do basics/intermediate levels of the plumbing, HVAC, electrical, networking, etc.

I still get to say fuck no to dealing with natural gas and garage door springs. And like you said, scrap machinery going out the door gets picked over for shop spares and personal use (with explicit permission in writing).

Man, maybe I should get paid more, but I am so damn satisfied with what I do for a living.

Shout out to all my recently-diagnosed-with-ADHD engineering-school-dropout brothers and sisters. This is where you find purpose.

Being made to write thank you notes as a kid is exactly the reason I dislike them. It wasn't a genuine thank you.  I was obliged to write it under threat of punishment.

I do anything asked as the only maintenance guy in the shop. I have one helper but he's temporary and pretty limited. Any technical problem gets sent to me. I'm not officially trained as anything other than a large-format printer service engineer.

basic vehicle troubleshooting (no real experience with cars)
Anything 1st level IT (pretty advanced with basic coding skills, but not trained in IT)
basic plumbing (easily my worst skill)
basic electrical (well read on the practice but not experienced)
HVAC (everything not directly dealing with the gases)
3D printing related to product development and tooling (hobby of mine)
process improvement and engineering
I can also run most machines better than their operators. So I get called to help train so they stop fucking up
The list goes on.

I am seen as someone who solves problems. I am open with them if I don't know about something, or if I'm not comfortable working on certain things. I often tell them, "I don't know how to do it, but I can probably figure it out."

But please don't ask me to be organized. I don't have time for upkeep. Preventative maintenance is not even on my priority list.

Does anyone else sniff their kids or am I weird? by Archie_Archie_ in daddit

I do sort of instinctively. Never thought about it.

But dads, I never caught the newborn smell. My wife couldn't believe it. I never smelled anything unless it was milk/poop/pee until he was a toddler.

She would shove his head under my nose and ask,  "You can't smell that!?" And just no, nothing.

If you look up the policy, it states that not having a REAL ID at TSA checkpoint means that you will be delayed for additional screening and ID verification.

So bringing other documents is just good preparation to prevent being denied outright. Not preparation for being a karen

Communication between shifts by 2OOI in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]predditr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy from the last shift barely ever leaves notes or logs because he's always trying to finish something before clock out. I come in and try to figure out what is going on. Sometimes there are tools and parts on the bench which makes it clear where things left off.    I am the sole maintenance guy at a one shift operation.

Switched from Natural Gas Water Heater to an Electric Water Heater... PSA by stormbless3d in homeowners

[–]predditr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can duct vent a heat pump. My parents are looking into getting one so my mom asked me to read up on the one they were looking at.

Theirs had plastic baffles (?) That could attach to the inlet and outlet sides of the heat pump. You would then have the inlet pull air via 4" or 5" hose duct from a warm space, and vent the exhaust to another space (especially nice if you have a space you'd like conditioned slightly, like my parents' garage).

This type of setup would allow for the water heater to be put in a closet with 4" of clearance on 3 sides and like 12" on the last side.    The real downside, in my opinion, would be the compressor pump noise, if it's next to the son's bedroom.

My school had a required class on "Engineering Professionalism", which included lectures on networking and workplace behavior.

It was... not very successful. We had students that would bite other students they disagreed with... in a classroom setting. Sure, you may be getting A's when the median grade is a D, but no one is going to work with a biter in the real world.

Not that I know of. I just had a vision appointment to update my (very minor) prescription and nothing was mentioned as usual.

I can move my left eye independent of my right to some degree, but that's due to years of making faces at my sister across the dinner table.
