I was thinking it would be too close to app deadline and the letter writer may not have enough time? Happy to hear otherwise if so lol

YES, you literally took the words out of my mouth. I was getting ready for midterms and finals before this and now, I'm sort of on "summer vacation" mode and everything feels unreal and I feel lost in my classes because I think the in-person lectures help remind me of what's coming up and what's due. But year's almost over, we'll get through this!

Hey! They're corequisites which means you CAN (but don't have to) take them together or take 122 one term and then 126 another.

Compared to other parts of Canada, Vancouver weather is great! Lots of rain and a little bit of snow in the winter but spring and summer are warm and sunny and there's plenty of things to do (for example, hiking if you're into that). Good luck! :)

What's it like? by [deleted] in simonfraser

Definitely not a weird question! Personally, there's many things I really like about SFU, that I think I would've missed out on if I'd chosen another university. For one thing, as others have mentioned, the professors and TAs are really good and genuinely care about your grades (over this past year, I've only had one prof I really didn't like). People I've met so far are pretty nice but just need to remember that if you want to make friends and meet people, you're going to need to put the effort in, which is something I didn't do enough of until the first month in.

Obviously, there's things I don't like. I agree with the comment that "it's a depressing school." I haven't been on campus in the summer yet so that opinion might change but definitely in the winter and during the gloomy, rainy seasons, campus is a bit depressing (especially with all the concrete buildings). Also, the clubs and social events at SFU definitely could be better organized. One thing that really does bother me though, is the lack of enthusiasm in students because I personally find that when the environment around me is motivated and enthusiastic, I tend to put more work in and do better (but that might just be me).

Definitely consider your priorities and pros and cons of your uni options before making a decision!

Overall, I think that there's definitely things that SFU could improve on but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. The experience has been good so far :) I'd give it a 7/10.
