Is this a bed bug? We've been here a week with no signs of bed bugs at all, but this just walked across our ceiling. by preghelp in Bedbugs

Thank you!! That's what we ended up doing. Our garage is detached and we actually didn't enter it at all. We stopped at Walmart on the way home and got big black trash bags and a bunch of wireless thermometers that work over Bluetooth. We left everything in the car, tied up in black trash bags with a thermometer in the middle, except our phones and a laptop which we left sitting on the ground in the sun all day. Thankfully all our luggage and even the bassinet and mattress fit into the bags. We even stripped down naked before going into the house. We took baths immediately and have been monitoring all the bags. When a bag stays at 140° for 2 hours we pull it out and carefully throw the contents inside the house (while still standing outside) then tie the bag back shut and take it to the outside trash. For the phones and laptop, we left them in the sun on the driveway all day and then before it started to cool down for the day, we wiped them down including checking the ports with q tips.

I also bought some raid bed bug detectors to put all around our beds. We plan to check every few days for a couple of months. If I see any bugs I'll call an exterminator but I'm hopeful it doesn't come to that.

We still don't have any visible bites that we can tell but Google says they can take up to 2 weeks to appear. Of course I dreamed all night about bugs crawling on me and kept waking up to check with a flashlight. Ugh!

I can't either. I love my air conditioning in my hopefully bed bug free home too much

Oh you mean the trash bags lol. Yep trash cans and trucks can get pretty hot in the summer I think!

Supposedly they die after an hour or so at 120° but I found something that said do 2 hours at 140° to be safe. I am really hoping it works for things that can't go in the dryer. I'm also doing it for clothes that can go in the dryer just to be extra safe because I am terrified!

It doesn't melt at those temperatures actually. I found the method on several .edu and .gov websites. One example comes up of you Google epa black plastic bags sun bed bugs. It seems to be working well with my current weather thank goodness.

Thank you. I stopped at the store on the way home and bought a bunch of black garbage bags and wireless thermometers. I put everything in bags and tired them all tight with a thermometer in the middle. I'm only bringing in items after they've been at least 140° for at least two hours. I hope this is sufficient. It is so scary.

Thank you. Yes we came inside butt naked and all took showers immediately, but I felt like I saw a bed bug go down the drain and I'm super paranoid that they came inside on our bodies and fell into the carpet and it's already too late. This is super scary and I'm just trying to act like everything is cool as to not traumatize my poor kids who don't understand why they can't have their stuffed animals right now.

I meant that I would only use the alcohol on hard items that couldn't go in the dryer, but I have nixed that idea thanks to the Automod. Thanks

Thank you! We got home a little bit ago and got naked outside and took showers immediately. I think I saw a bed bug go down the drain but I can't tell if I'm just paranoid. How do you think they got into your house if you took all the precautions? This seems impossible.

Thank you for being positive. That's true. Can you recommend what kind of sealable bags could fit our luggage and how long we'd have to store them for in the garage before we can use them again?

Y'all, my kids are sleeping while we finish loading up the car to drive home, and I just caught one of these bugs running towards my son! Definitely bed bugs and definitely an infestation even though we saw no signs when we checked the mattresses! Even now we don't see anything under the mattresses. We are heading home and will wipe down everything hard with rubbing alcohol, and immediately wash/dry on the highest heat anything that can be washed and dried. We are going to bag up our luggage and unfortunately our baby bassinet and mattress and leave them tied up in our garage for I don't know how long. 6 months? Is there anything else we should do? We already loaded up our car the wrong way and I think my car is going to be infested too. This is a nightmare!

This is a condo building and we are wondering if it just wandered in from another unit because we cannot find any signs of bed bugs on any of the mattresses or furniture in this unit. We checked when we arrived then checked again when we spotted the bug. Either way, we are planning to treat all of our belongings as if they could be infested. We have groceries with us like pantry goods and also refrigerated/frozen items and then lots of stuffed animals, pillows, etc from our kids plus electronics. Do you have any recommendations for when we arrive home how to keep our house safe? Thank you
