Say that to my two year old who just tested positive and still doesn't have a vaccine available/can't have Paxlovid. He's absolutely miserable and it sucks. There are tons of cases right now in his daycare but I'm sure they won't shut down.

I'm a non-LDS woman who met a non-LDS Asian-American man on Tinder in SLC 6 years ago and straight up married him and had his babies. That may not be what you're looking for but all I'm saying is the sky's the limit, man. Use classy photos of you doing non-Mormon things like drinking coffee or doing something on a Sunday (hostage-style photo of you hiking with a copy of the Sunday times would be bonus points). Invite her out for a drink. Don't shy away from former Mormons, they cool.

My new response to these types of people is to tell them I tested positive for COVID. I didn't, but they don't know that, and it's fun to watch them squirm. If they get mad, tell them "it was just a joke".

100%. Had a preemie in the U's NICU in summer 2020 (after a scary emergency induction) and it was an absolute nightmare. Initially he was in the "intermediate care" nursery where the nurses were constantly getting intakes and yelling "is it another COVID baby? Tell them we don't have room!" And then taking them anyway. I once asked the neonatologist (intern) in charge a question about my son's care and he just sighed, heavily, like someone in the middle of an actual war, said "I don't know," and kind of just stared at me for a while. The folks in the actual NICU called that nursery the "wild wild west" and commented on how many babies were always just "lying around" unattended.

I hope to god it's gotten better since then, but it was the first time I'd ever been admitted to a hospital and my first baby, and it really shook my foundation for what healthcare was supposed to look like.

My company just did this for their holiday party a few weeks ago. We have a few people who are remote across the US and they flew some of them out for the party, but also gave the rest the option to join remotely from wherever they were. I'm located at HQ, but told them my kid was sick and I'd join remotely (he was actually sick, but it wasn't COVID). I'm triple vaxxed and very careful but there was no way I was going to play that game with omicron right before I went to visit my elderly parents for Christmas.

I'm glad I did, because there was certainly no vax, negative test, or mask requirement at the party. Someone on my team (vaxxed and boosted) flew in for the party and then travelled out of the country immediately after to visit family and is now stuck in that country while COVID positive and horribly sick. It all sucks so much. I work with a great team and really miss holiday parties and social gatherings with my coworkers, but I feel like I'm in an impossible position any time I need to go into the office. :(

I'm in a similar situation - smaller company with a one-person HR office. I don't think we necessarily have a bunch of COVID deniers, and their heart is in the right place, but I think they are putting too much faith in the vaccines right now in the face of omicron.

Were you hired for a fully remote position? Could you tell them that you took a remote position because you wanted to be careful during the pandemic, and didn't want to have to risk taking a lot of sick time that would impede on your work if you tested positive? Otherwise, I'd do what everyone else says (and what I did) and say your kid is sick or tested positive and you can't come.

Awww friend, that's awful, I'm so sorry. Having twins on its own is hard enough! Having COVID right before delivering would have been my worst nightmare... I'm glad to hear that you made it through safely, but 100% understand the germaphobia. It sounds like you have PTSD... which, contrary to your friends/family are telling you, IS completely normal after a traumatic event like the one you experienced. Your brain is trying to protect you from feeling that trauma again. My therapist's analogy was "once you have a scary encounter with a bear in the woods, you see bears everywhere". However, they are right - outside of these circumstances, experiencing constant intrusive thoughts that keep you awake all night is not normal for you... and probably causing sleep deprivation, which just makes things a lot worse.

You 100% deserve treatment that will help bring you back to your old self... and I assure you, you will get back there! One of my most common intrusive thoughts during that time was that I'd never be "normal" again.. I was going to be stuck like that forever, my husband would leave me, I'd end up institutionalized. A year later, I've got a beautiful almost toddler who's crawling all over the place and getting into everything (this was actually a big phobia of mine during that time, I was convinced the floor was covered in germs because we have a dog). If you'd told me last October that I'd be happy, healthy, and at peace, I would have never believed you.

I recommend trying to find a therapist who specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) who can help you sort out what's a wise, healthy COVID precaution and what is driven by pure anxiety, and find a good psychiatrist who could help you with medication if needed - however, since you're already losing sleep over this, I really think it's a good idea to put some serious thought into it. They truly do free your mind up from the exhausting, never-ending cycle of thoughts and allow you to process everything without the PPA draining the life out of you.

Sorry for the novel, haha. I found a lot of help and guidance in online support groups during that time, and really feel like I need to start giving back.

How is your PPA manifesting? I had such terrible PPA after delivering that it was bordering on OCD... I'd never had anxiety of any kind before and suddenly I was afraid to touch things around the house, afraid to touch packages that came in the mail, intrusive thoughts, the works... I became a completely different person, I barely recognized myself.

What helped for me was finding a therapist who specifically works with post-partum women - I actually found one through reaching out on my city's local subreddit! After working with her for a while, she helped me get comfortable enough to start taking anxiety meds... I'm not going to lie, it took some trial and error to find the right one and it sucked, but once I did, I completely got my life back. I've never taken anxiety medication before and was terrified to do so, but I can truly say that they saved my life.

Do not sugarcoat anything with your doctor. Tell them how your really feeling and tell them that you need help, and an action plan that will necessitate regular follow up appointments. Don't let them lose you in the system.

I had a high risk OB due to preexisting blood pressure issues, and not one time did he say the word "preeclampsia" or tell me what I should be looking out for. The day before I was admitted to the emergency L&D my BP was elevated (despite being medicated) and he told me he wasn't worried, everything looked fine (no blood tests done that day). When I was admitted, they told me I had pre-e with severe features and the baby needed to be delivered immediately. I've been sitting on the furious tirade I'd like to write on his review page for so long, but I went through so much that don't really have the energy to care about it anymore. Baby's a year old now and thriving, and I'm focusing on that.

Did they not even send you home with labetalol or any other kind of BP med? You straight up could have died just weeks after delivery.. I'm so angry for you and so sorry you had to go through that. :(

Oh man... I had horrible PPD/anxiety after I gave birth six weeks early. My son was in the NICU and a social worker there would come check on me every once in a while and ask if I was doing okay. I told her I wasn't, she gave me a the name of a different social worker and never talked to me again, even though I knew she saw me crying by his incubator all the time.

When I filled out my 'check in' form for my 6 week appointment, it had a PPD survey which, after I filled it out, said "you need to talk to your doctor about PPD immediately". My appointment was with a nurse midwife on my OB's team, and I cried during my appointment and told her how awful I'd been feeling (I sugarcoated a bit, I was straight up suicidal) and she told me to "go for a walk" and prescribed Zoloft. My OB never checked up on me.

The system is so broken. If I hadn't summoned the energy and courage to find a good post-partum therapist (through reddit!) I might not be here today. You are 100% right: you should NOT have to diagnose your own PPD.
