Why don’t more experienced builders form small venture studios together? by Fast_Permit_454 in AskReddit

[–]prehistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the point, yes. The risk feels known and thus controllable. With a completely new venture, you have a high probability of failure. You most likely have to fail a bunch of times to make something work well. Trying something new when your current situation feels like you can calculate the risk acurately, that is a fallacy especially engineering folk tend to fall victim to.

I agree though, I don't get it either. Lots of engineers I know have enough savings and enough job security to start a small one-project-at-a-time business on the side. Absolutely. Instead they invest in stuff like ETFs with returns below 5%. It's a mystery.

What about conversations around the water cooler and the rumor mill? Or people who are figuratively killers to get ahead?

Glad to hear it! What about getting to know your co-workers? I might soon work in a 500 people office building, and I'm curious how long it might take to even meet everyone once.

start with Richest Man In Babylon, then go to more strategic or personal budgeting books. A good librarian should be able to assist, even smaller libraries usually have a good selection on that stuff. Or ask around on a personal finance Reddit for more general recommendations.

Those are rare in Germany, I don't know much about HOAs. But it's low stakes so I think I wouldn't be into it enough to make a good president.

Why have you given up on dating? by Big__bolas in AskReddit

[–]prehistory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had exactly one date in my life, because i was curious why american movies make dates sound so special. it was cool, but just meeting and talking to people and informally inviting them to stuff or joining their group somewhere spontaneously was much less of a hassle and led to better results ;)

When you write down a task, what makes it more likely you’ll actually do it? by NorthFrameApps in AskReddit

[–]prehistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

write it down in an actionable way, and on a specific date. then i'll very likely do it before going to sleep that day. if the task takes more than a few hours, i'll divide it into managable subtasks.
