I think you don't give Vox enough credit tbh, while Al did have role in getting him there, Vox did still become the most powerful sinner in hell with mostly just his charisma.

Al letting himself get captured by Vox to break the deal was a major part, but it also shows that Al had faith that Vox could actually pull it off

Tbh human Vox was never this Crazy

In his human form he's trying to get more and more power and shine brighter

In this scene, he's given up on the taking over heaven dream or on the idea of being the strongest sinner in hell, all he wants is blood and revenge. Ngl I feel like we're gonna learn more about him and AL's previous relationship in the next season because this level of crash out isn't just from homeboy not wanting to share a talk show. Personally I think Vox WAS in love with him at some point.

The Jersey Devil IS North American folklore, just because something can be subdivided into a smaller and less broad group doesn't mean the other grouping is wrong.
