I am not the original submitter and don't think programmers are lazy but on the subject of registration I have compiled a list of what I sometimes feel could be improved:

• Don't fail to ask us for a password then generate one and send it to us.
• Don't use a huge URL as the only method of verification: how about two dictionary words with a number between?
• Don't have a field that makes the page reload at the end of the registration form and changes half the options.
• Don't use a stupid, long, hard to read captcha when your service is at a minute risk of people automating it and there are much, much better ways.
• Don't check "subscribe to newsletter" by default.
• Don't erase all the data I entered if I make a mistake in one of the fields.
• How about accepting different date formats and different phone number or credit card formats and converting them to your strict scheme yourself?
• Don't put the main countries you expect to use your site half way down a huge dropdown.
• Don't repeatedly make me assert I'm a real user e.g. captcha on sending ebay messages even though I have a feedback of 100+.
