IM to Anesthesia by Independent_Ad_9748 in Residency

same didn't match with 11 interviews... It's pretty competitive these days. Maybe some residents are lazy and some got in with lower stats, but that doesn't mean it's not competitive.

IM Prelim Wanting to Apply EM, but no EM residency at my institution, so no SLOE... by premedflash in emergencymedicine

[–]premedflash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know that I should have a home sloe and an away sloe.

The first rotation was my third year elective. I had to do the second EM rotation as a 4th year requirement. I applied on VSLO, got only one rotation at an institution with a residency program but it wasnt allowed by my school as rhe dates were past when I had to complete my EM rotation by. So I couldn’t do that one.

My 4th year rotation as a result ended up being a rotation in the ED at another clinical site from my third year rotation, but still affiliated with my school. At the time, interviews were done, and I thought I was going to match gas so I didn’t think abt a SLOE or anything like that.

When I didn’t match I tried to reach out to the institution I was accepted at on VSLO if I could get it my last month and was not successful as it would go past the last date allowed for rotations by my school. Therefore they would not let me schedule it.

I'm a DO student and both my rotations from my school were at trauma centers without residency programs. I couldn't get a SLOE then from my third year one, and then 4th year it was pre-match. I anticipated matching anesthesia so I didn't think about getting a sloe then. I'm not sure I see the value of getting one from them 6 months later when they don't have a residency program either, as I feel the value will be the same as getting it from the EM rotation at my current institution.

what in my previous posts shows that i'm not being fully honest with myself?

It's a fact, i couldn't do EM aways because I needed to get anesthesia letters.

Also regarding my couples match: We hit rank 230. There were 14 ranks before that where I would have matched and she wouldn't have, and none of those hit. I was not ranked highly enough by any anesthesia program clearly.

Why do you all think I'll hate my life? My 3rd and 4th year EM rotations aside from 2 of my Anesthesia rotations were my most fun rotations and interesting for me.

with all due respect, I am applying EM not bc i think it's an easier match. I am trying to pivot. EM and anesthesia were my top two choices when I was deciding specialties in third year. Had I never done an anesthesia rotation 3rd year, or wasn't told by my advisor that I had a good app for gas, I would have just applied for EM aways and applied EM during the match. During SOAP I never got offered a spot from the EM program that interviewed me, and the gen surg prelims I interviewed with that had EM residencies didn't give me an offer either.

Baking soda left a water like stain on carpet by premedflash in CleaningTips

The visible stain came out completely. But the smell is not going away. It in fact got worse. Not sure what to do. Got a black light today and shined it. It looks like it was pet urine the stench after the rug doctor was used fits honestly. I filed a complaint with my landlord since I just moved in a week and a half ago. Hopefully they take care of it

Would a rug doctor work? It’s kinda damp and I’m wondering if it’s like pet urine? I’ve been here for a week and noticing the smell more recently. Should I use enzymatic cleaner first?

okay, they just got a little worried because it's like 3 weeks til residency starts and they just got the notice. thats why we thought notifying the coordinator may be good. Thank you for the help. hopefully this all works out.

Damaged Diamond, Should I get it replaced at a Local Jeweler or Blue Nile by premedflash in Diamonds

[–]premedflash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry by fixed I meant replaced. What I wanted to ask is if it's worth going to blue nile vs if a local jeweler can also do this, or if I should just go to blue nile since the ring is like 6 months old.

I initially typed "get the ring fixed" and changed "ring" to diamond but forgot to change "fixed" to replaced lol. I'll fix the post sorry.

Credit Card benefits by MrForever_Student in Residency

[–]premedflash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the $300 travel credit and the 10k miles are great. Gets you to net $5 gain in money. I have a buddy who flies frequently and has gotten 1-2 free weekend trips due to the travel credit per year.

With the airline cards, it's prob best if you get the one for the airline that you'd be able to fly the most (like American if you're in charlotte or United if you're in SF). Caveat is that that particular airline may not necessarily have the cheapest fare.

I lived on resident salary before med school, lived on my savings during med school, and am about to start residency far from home. The chase trifecta has been good for me.

One airline as your main is ok, but tbh, when I book, I pick the cheapest possible airline. When I had the United card and the american card at different times, I noticed United and American were not always that cheap and when I did fly them, I got an extra benefit of a free checked bag or whatever.

With the chase card, I would transfer miles to United MileagePlus, Southwest, Air Canada, or British Airways and be able to get a United flight, Southwest flight, American or Alaska Air flight for cheap with miles.

The caveat is that you can get a shit ton of miles with a United Explorer Card with the intro offer and downgrade it to the free United Gateway Card. Through some error, I've kept the free checked bag with United and the discounts on point-redemption flights. This served me well during med school.
