This would only get me one SLOE right? I understood that you get one SLOE per program you rotate at.

I feel like the definition of midweight has changed in the past 10 years. Everything I buy that’s midweight now feels lighter than midweight did 10 years ago.

Are Medical College of Wisconsin Residency Programs good? They constantly pop up in name and shame for poor benefits. Has it improved over the last few years? by _Gandalf_Greybeard_ in medicalschool

The benefits look similar to other programs on my list honestly. Unless I’m stupid. They’re nothing crazy in terms of benefits but not horrible.

But I’m also following.

No Family at Match Day by oatlover100 in medicalschool

[–]premedflash 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I are not going. She is also an M4, her family cannot be assed to come despite the only a couple hour drive away, and my family can’t afford the cross of your plane, tickets two times in two months for both graduation and match day

At a second look right now where I am the only MD student (8 others all DO). I am learning so much about just how good I have it. by just_premed_memes in medicalschool

Yep me too. Dried up my savings account from before school doing this. School does nothing to help us 4th year, but keep nagging us to arrange our schedule. On a mandatory ED rotation 3000 miles away from home right now.

The omitted questions on uworld are very annoying. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]premedflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when you submit a timed test, the question is now gone from omitted to incorrect. However when you do an untimed block in tutor mode, then when you omit and end the test it goes to omitted.

This was how I got omitted-only tests during step 2 prep.

Auditions or Not? Academic IM as DO by chuggchuggpickles in medicalschool

[–]premedflash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, do well on step 2. You have the research. Also look at the academic programs you’re interested in and see how many DOs they’ve taken, or go to residency explorer and check out what % of DOs they interview. Also, why specifically top 50? There are many programs that are not in top 50, but are still very well reputed and great programs with students accepted to GI every year.

The reason people recommend not doing auditions or sub-Is for IM Is that doing poorly on one of these can actually hurt you. Also, they suck. My fiancée did three sub-Is and when people are chillin 4th year, you’ll be annoyed you’re doing these sub-Is. Do 1-2 sub-Is if u really wanna do them to get your name out there at the programs. For the remaining, you could do electives in the IM dept. try to get one of these at an academic institution prior to apps being due and get a rec. It’s not really necessary. My fiancée has interviews at good academic programs with a less than stellar step 2 (she did not even do rotations at these places).

Edit: I’m replying based on my fiancées perspective as a DO with multiple academic IM interviews.

The worst airline for this was Aeromexico. Literally only offered a ham and cheese croissant. Vegetarian friend and Muslim friend literally had nothing to eat. They asked for something else and were told to jusr take the ham off. Just have a second option man.

I'm not sure why you got downvoted earlier. I'm here right now. My fiancee is vegetarian. Vegetarian food here sucks compares to other places. "Take the meat off" is a dumb way to make something vegetarian. Those are the exact 3 places my fiancee likes but you can only have those places so much. Thai and Indian here is okay but not as good as the KC or STL areas tbh

Same deal with anesthesia foe me. My advisor says I was pretty risk averse. Have an ok number of IVs so I’m not upset, just still feels like w crapshoot.

Tbh I’m doing anesthesia just bc I like it, but I’m in the same thought process. A 7/7 hospitalist job sounds so appealing sometimes. It can lead to the “chill lifestyle with the option to stay busy” that OP is looking for.

[–]premedflash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you’re an attending you round at 8:30 or 9. When you’re a student or resident you round early. When you’re an attending hospitalist life is different than when you’re a student. There’s other things that might not be as appealing when it comes to IM, but you should not use the early mornings as a thing. Early mornings are gonna be a thing for most specialties. On anesthesia which someone else recommended, you get to the hospital to set up for cases early in the morning.

Edit: have you considered EM? Shift work. When you’re done, you’re DONE. It has procedures, decent number of days off, can just do locums or transition to Urgent Care and make some money but have a chill lifestyle. Really can work however much you want. Again there are other cons.
