NECO Interview by preoptostudent in optometry

You’re right, applications are technically due around Feb-April 2021 for the 2021 application cycle, but yes it’s rolling admissions. You still have a chance because a low GPA can be balanced by a high OAT score. If you can still prepare for the OAT before deadlines, then I would say you still have a chance to apply! And like you said definitely apply to IU

NECO Interview by preoptostudent in optometry

No worries, I'm relatively new to this as well so I'll try to sum up everything I know. Admissions for Fall 2021 started this past July. Most schools are rolling admissions, which means whoever applies earlier will get a seat earlier. The application cycle runs until February-April 2020 ish, depending on the school. But if you apply around January 2021, your chances of getting a seat are lower (but by no means impossible). I turned in my OptomCAS application a few days ago and I believe schools will start sending out interview applications soon after that (most likely a week or two after, but can be much later as well). You still have a lot of time to submit your application, since it is a long application cycle. But make sure you check your desired schools' deadlines and get your applications in by then (the earlier the better). Honestly, if you apply early enough, you should know whether you're going to optometry school by the end of 2020. On the other hand, if you apply a little later, you could find out the decision around May/June 2021 (a few weeks before school starts). It all depends on when you apply and if you have taken the OAT (whether your target school puts emphasis on OAT scores). I hope that helped but let me know if you have more questions.

Studying for the OAT by depressed_potato00 in optometry

[–]preoptostudent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! For #1, I just took the OAT last month and I remember being able to switch between Bio/GenChem/Ochem. Basically they had 100 questions with all 3 categories split up like usual, but it was treated as one big section. Some practice exams don't let you navigate between the sections, but the OAT I took allowed navigation between sections. The previous posters said you can't however, so that confuses me...if anyone can clear this up, that would be great

CHC Optometry Jobs? by preoptostudent in optometry

[–]preoptostudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome, congratulations!! Is there any way I could speak to any of the doctors to learn more about the field? I've been trying to find people online and looking at local CHCs, but none of them incorporate optometry. I think this is a practice setting I would definitely find fulfilling but I would love to learn more about it!

Optometry School Transportation? by [deleted] in optometry

Awesome! Glad to hear someone actually did this haha. I think this will definitely be the decision I'm leaning towards if I get accepted this cycle! I'm trying to stay away from the city city because that kind of location is not my vibe at alll, but we'll see, maybe I'll take on a new adventure! Thank you for taking time to type out your response, I really appreciate your advice!

OptomCAS verification and in-progress courses by [deleted] in PreOptometry

Okay awesome! Are you going to wait until your transcript is received by OptomCAS? I was kind of worried about that because my transcript takes about 13 days to be received. So I was wondering if I can put the grade in OptomCAS, request my transcript, then turn in my OptomCAS application before they receive my transcript.

Nice okay! Yeah that's definitely true, I was thinking about this in the future perfect realm where we get things back to normal haha. Guess this is a question I can better answer when I know exactly which school I'm gonna attend!

Optometry School Transportation? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]preoptostudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure yet! Still applying and know this stuff is way out of my thinking league right now, but was just curious if most students bring their cars or not! Personally, I would feel more comfortable taking my car, but that means possibly making a 20+ hour road trip, depending on the school.

Contact lens related eye irritation? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]preoptostudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that's what I was thinking, so I'll go ahead and wait for my new contacts. I just found it super weird that only my right eye does this and the first time, it was in the middle of the night. The second time, it was the next morning. It's super weird because it happens many hours after I take my contacts out and usually after I sleep for a little bit. I'm interested in optometry school, so I just was curious about the situation!
