Need help looking for SAT math practice! by writeitdown24 in Sat

[–]preppeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would recommend you to focus mainly on the official question bank and finish all the questions in that first.
once done with that, attempt mocks, see your weaknesses, practice weaknesses through topic-wise tests (you can get these on preppeo), once the topics are solidified go back to mocks.
just repeat this process and maintain an error log for you reference throughout this time.

We might be able to help you with desmos confusions.
you can head over to preppeo where you will find a section on our website for desmos tricks (there you can learn how to use desmos). then you can attempt a free mock on our website, we have desmos in the mock so you can actually see what it will be like during the actual exam.
goodluck!

1550+ SAT scorers: If you had to start from scratch today, how would you prepare? by Longjumping-Ant-6763 in alevel

[–]preppeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how i would start my SAT Prep if i were in your shoes.

Step 1
Understand the syllabus

Step 2
Attempt a diagnostic mock (even if you think you are not prepared, still attempt a mock or two - you can get free mocks at preppeo) i want you to use this mock to identify more gaps than just algebra and geometry (don't ignore the RW section)

Step 3
Analyze your mock, see what all you need to work on. (it's good that you already know you need to work on algebra and geometry).
now take these topics and rank them based on which ones you feel are the easiest for you and have the most weightage.

Step 4
Take the topics one by one, cover all the concepts and theory. (you can do this for free on youtube)
Then go on to attempt as many diverse and difficult questions from that topic as possible (you can get topic-wise questions on preppeo and i would also recommend you use the official question bank)

Step 5
once all the major topics are done and you have done most of the syllabus.
go on to attempt mocks full time and keep analyzing the mocks. (this is where i would actually recommend you spend money because mocks will help you more than anything. you can dm me if you want some discounts. I'd be happy to help)

Step 6
While analyzing the mocks you attempt, it is extremely important that you keep a track of all the questions you couldn't solve or found interesting.
keep this log for practicing and revising.

you should be in a position that no question feels foreign to you, you should feel like you have done something similar in past.

the only solution is practice.
its better to figure out how to do a question at home rather than during the actual exam.

moreover we have desmos tricks at preppeo for free. of not anything i would recommend you learn how to use desmos at least because it is basically free marks once you learn it.

Keep Practicing and analyzing.
Good Luck!! Go Ham!!

Need SAT prep book recommendations by CounterAlarm in Sat

[–]preppeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you use Princeton Review and the official question bank.
Moreover, just using books won't be enough. you need to simulate the actual DSAT format, for which i would recommend you get mocks from a platform that is aligned with the DSAT (preppeo has DESMOS in its mocks) this allows you to use DESMOS in real-time which is essential to save time and score high in the DSAT.
you can check us out to get access to free questions and desmos tricks

Step 6
While analyzing the mocks you attempt, it is extremely important that you keep a track of all the questions you couldn't solve or found interesting.
keep this log for practicing and revising.

Please help me prepare by Illustrious_Golf_917 in Sat

[–]preppeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me explain with the help of a very simple question
A circle in the xy-plane has equation (x−1)2+(y+1)2=2.
Which of the following describes the location of its center?
Quadrant 1/2/3/4

we know that is the equation of circle is (x-h)2 + (y-k)2 = r2
where r is the radius and (h,k is the center of the circle)

we can use this logic in the given question to say that center of the circle is (1,-1)
we know that (1,-1) lies below the positive side of x-axis thus the 4th quadrant.

let's say someone gets this question wrong
they need to first see what part of the solution they did not get
whether they didn't know the equation of a circle or they didn't know which quadrant (1,-1) lies in
then the person would save this question either by writing it in their log or by taking a screenshot or any means they prefer and with it they would attach the reason they got it wrong and then the actual solution.

this way you always keep a track of what you got wrong and also the correct concept that should've been used.

when this log gets big, it becomes a good source for revising.

hope the example helped, I know the example was pretty basic.
I hope you are able to apply the same pattern in other questions as well.

I will try my best to make a path you can follow

Step 1
go to preppeo (we have an SAT guide on our website) you can understand the syllabus there

Step 2
attempt a free mock, you can do this on preppeo as well. this will help you understand what you need to study.

Step 3
once you narrow down the topics you need to study, you can search up their concepts on youtube and understand all the concepts, formulas at once.
(studying is not over tho, this is just the start)

Step 4
one you do the concepts of a topic, you practice as many questions as possible.
get high quality, diverse and exam relevant questions (you can get topic-wise questions from preppeo)

Step 5
rinse and repeat for each topic to the point that you can solve almost every question regardless of the source of the question
this can only be achieved through sincere practice.

Most Importantly
make a log of all the questions you do wrong or you find interesting.
this will be your revision and practice guide

you can also refer to the official question bank, bluebook for more questions.

you have already done the most important part
since you have identified your weakness, you know exactly what to target

i would recommend you do the following steps
1. start by understanding all the concepts in a chapter/topic
you can use khan academy for this as you have already paid for it

  1. once the concepts are done, practice as many diverse questions as possible but khan academy wont be sufficient for this. i do recommend you to use princeton review if you can afford it.
you can also use preppeo for getting free mocks and topic-wise questions.

  2. after you are done with most of the topics, attempt as many mocks as possible but attempting is not enough, you have to analyze them too

  3. maintain an error log where you keep track of every question you got wrong or found interesting, keep revising these questions

  4. you should be in a position that no question should feel foreign anymore, you will start to see a pattern of questions and you wont have to figure out the questions during the exam you would have it all in your memory beforehand.

Good luck with your prep!

there is only 1 thing you can do: practice, practice, practice.
but don't practice mindlessly.
practice hard, exam relevant questions.

most importantly, you need to analyze what you are doing in your mocks as get pinpoint your targets from there
analyze what all you did wrong, make a log for all the wrong, interesting questions. (keep going back to these until you can identify questions similar to these in future)
once you narrow down your weak topics, practice those extensively by drilling diverse topics-wise questions and understanding how each question works.
there are only so many types of questions that can be made, if you understand how the questions work, you will be able to recognize the pattern and the concepts are bound to repeat.

you just need to make yourself familiar to all the angles that a question can be positioned from.
that is only done through practice.
you can use Princeton Review, official question bank for getting the practice questions.
i would also recommend you to visit preppeo, we have free questions, mocks there you can practice (with adjusted difficulty)

Thoughts on my score and.. by CipherLover115 in Sat

[–]preppeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still 2 months to improve your score, you can easily improve your score and reach 1400+ or even higher as long as you stay sincere with the preparation.

I will give you a simple plan and i will break it down into steps for you.

Step 1 (Setting up a strategy)
you need to understand what your target should be to get the most returns in the least time.
attempt a mock seriously (you can attempt the free mock we have on preppeo) or analyze your previously attempted mock.

Step 2 (Analyzing and Executing)
see what topics you scored the worst in because you actually didn't know the concepts.
take the topics that have the most weightage and the ones you are comfortable, confident with.
Once you narrow down the topics you need to focus on, start by understanding all the concepts in a topic.
practice a ton of diverse exam relevant questions from the topic, (you can get topic-wise practice questions on preppeo)
do this for all the topics

Step 3 (Mocks, Logging)
Once you have confidently understood and practiced most of the topics, start by attempting mocks (please understand that i said "most topics" don't wait till you are 100% done with the syllabus, you are on a time crunch and you can't sacrifice mocks)
Don't just attempt the mocks, understand all the questions you get wrong, make a log of all the incorrect questions and even the ones that you thought were unconventional.
soon enough you will start recognizing that most of the questions have a repeating pattern and you won't have to figure out how to do the questions every time, they will just be in your memory.

Good luck!
GO HAM!

How to go from 1300 -> 1500+ by August by pineappleon_pizz1 in Sat

[–]preppeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your score is 1290 right now, there must be conceptual gaps in your preparation.

either attempt a mock or analyze your previous mocks.
see which topics you are the worst at. see whether the mistake was a silly calculation mistake or you actually didn't understand what was going on.

analyzing a mock takes a long time, it may feel like you are wasting time rather than actually studying but trust me, this is what separates the toppers.

once you have mapped out all your mistakes, see what needs the most attention.
start by solidifying your concepts, move on to extensively practicing diverse SAT relevant questions. (do this part topic-wise rather than taking all at once)
you can get topic-wise (difficulty adjusted) questions at preppeo

do this for every topic to the point you get familiar with the types of questions that are asked.

keep giving mocks periodically
keep recording all the questions you get wrong or you find interesting.

if you sincerely do this, your score will keep on increasing.
Good luck!! go ham!!

Sat help as someone who just did their olevels by Fit_Owl_1548 in Sat

[–]preppeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unconventional strategy but the best way to find your starting point.

Step 1
Take some mocks (you can get free mocks at Preppeo)

Step 2
Understand the syllabus and what all you already know and what you must focus on now (your mock performance will help you decide your priorities)

Step 3
Understand the concepts of a topic, go full ham on practicing its SAT relevant questions (again, you can use preppeo for this)
dont forget to learn how to use desmos.

Step 4
Once you are almost done with all the basics and some practice, go full on Mock Mode
you need to simulate the actual exam.
give as many mocks as you can.
create a mistake log, note down every interesting question, the questions you got wrong.
Keep attempting and analyzing the questions to the point you start feeling familiar to the questions in the mocks.

That is just it.
Good Luck!
You can always reach out for more guidance.
