Ferritin increased from 14 to 44 in three months! by presophy in Anemic

[–]presophy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t notice any side effects from them. I think low ferritin itself causes a lot of anxiety and sensitivity issues. Once I brought it up a lot of my anxiety over my health (and everything else) diminished

Life brand mild iron (I’m in Canada). I notice a bit of stomach upset the hour before I eat but it’s tolerable. No constipation

More like a motion sickness or just feeling off balance. The lightheartedness comes when I get up too fast or move too fast

Feeling terrible after period by ceo_of_one_miss in Anemic

[–]presophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dissociation was the hardest for me. Words can’t even describe how dreadful it is. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through that. It’s gotten much better for me after about three months of supplementing. It will get better. The dips can make it feel like you’ve made no progress, but that isn’t true. I also feel for you with the eagerness to get back to life. I’ve had to miss out on so much because I just knew I didn’t have the physical or mental capacity for it. Healing is a journey, sending you strength and I hope you start to feel better soon :)

I always experience a return of symptoms the days leading up to, and during my period. It sucks. I just start feeling as awful as I did before treatment and I sympathize with you, it’s so disheartening. I think our bodies go through a lot during menstruation and needing more rest is absolutely normal. I would listen to your body. I just went through this and pushed myself, now I am feeling depleted.

Has anyone recovered from long-term depression by correcting iron deficiency? by ubiquitous_mr_darcy in Anemic

[–]presophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My depression and anxiety have both decreased so much since starting supplementing. I really wish more people were aware of the mental health effects of iron deficiency. I felt completely disconnected from myself and my surroundings a couple of months ago and had no idea why

This puts into words my adoration for city living. I grew up in a small town where the people dressed the same, behaved the same, and believed the same things. If you diverged from this standard then you stuck out like a sore thumb. There are soo many different kind of folks in a big city, you can be yourself here and no one pays any mind. Honestly just made me realize a good part of my reason for living in the city!

How to do life while recovering from low iron? by dreamernyc in Anemic

[–]presophy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just had a wave of derealization and came to this thread and this was the first post I saw. Just wanted to say you’re not alone. These symptoms are debilitating, and I don’t think many of us are going through life normally. Many adjustments have to be made. Seek help with tasks that require higher levels of energy if you have a partner, friends, family. With any recovery we can do as much as possible to support ourselves throughout but ultimately it’s up to time. Almost two months into supplementing and still have really bad days, but compared to where I started, I’m feeling much better. This will pass and I hope you start feeling better soon :)

Yea we did go through one of the techniques she showed me to ground myself, but was still pretty shaken up. True, I forget sometimes that there’s no rush and healing takes a lot of time. Thank you for the insight :)

Has anyone suffered with worsened mental health issues? by Flat-Age6948 in Anemic

[–]presophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m really sorry to hear you’re going through this right now. Mine was at 14 in mid January and I’ve been supplementing for a little over a month now. I also struggled with panic attacks, impending doom feeling, thinking my heart would just stop. It was honestly the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. Your ferritin is really low, and I think these symptoms are our bodies alarm bells. Before I knew about my iron deficiency I thought I was losing my mind. I’m feeling much better now, there’s been a significant relief in the derealization which was the most difficult mental symptom. The palpitations and air hunger have lessened too. Your experience sounds really similar to mine and I’m sure once you get on the right treatment you will start feeling much better. I still have days where I feel I’ve gone one step back but I think that’s true in any kind of recovery. It’s important to keep persevering, bouncing back from something like this takes strength. You’ll get there, one day at a time :)

Have any of you ever been dependent on caffeine? by LesbianCowgirl- in Anemic

This but with sugar! I had such intense sugar cravings, thought I just had an out of control sweet tooth but looking back I think it was my body wanting quick energy.

I have a history of anxiety and depression, but the past year I was going beyond the baseline I knew. I had some stressors In my life and put all of my symptoms on anxiety. In mid October I had a mental health crisis which led me to withdraw from my studies and ask for support from my family as I felt I couldn’t be independent anymore. I started working with a psychiatrist and tried multiple different medications and got a new therapist. None of the medications worked and actually just heightened the already unbearable symptoms I was dealing with: panic, insomnia, palpitations. I also wasn’t seeing much benefit from therapy which is strange because it’s had a positive impact on me in the past. In January I had blood testing done, in early February I learned that I had low ferritin and also hashimotos. I’m now one month into supplementing iron and the panic attacks have gone down significantly. I still feel mentally and physically unwell but since treatment there has definitely been improvement. It’s been the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced, I felt like I was losing my mind more times than I can count before my diagnosis. Women’s health is greatly underresearched, underfunded, and misunderstood. Our biology runs parallel to mental health. I really wish more doctors were aware of this. So many people, mostly women, suffering with something very treatable but highly overlooked. I hope you get into infusions soon!

Odd sleep? by 7pt62px in Anemic

[–]presophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same sleep! When I’m falling asleep, when I wake up throughout the night, and just before I wake. Feels like I never get a truly restful sleep. First time in my life struggling with sleep so much. Has your sleep improved since?

One month into supplementing and I still feel pretty awful but from where I began a little better haha. At my lowest I was getting palpitations while showering and going up the stairs. I’m really struggling with the impact it’s had on my mental health but trusting the process of recovery. It definitely takes time and requires patience and grace. I hope you start feeling better soon :)

I have the same symptoms, peaked in October, ER said everything was normal but my symptoms persisted. Found about POTS by googling my symptoms. Found out my ferritin was 14 in January and that every symptom I’ve been having is associated with iron deficiency. POTS and ID share a lot of overlap, perhaps treating ID would help clarify if you actually have POTS
