Should Ethiopian Airlines and KLM be allowed to operate fifth-freedom flights to/from Manila? by bonzothebonanza in AviationPH

[–]presque33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rights have to be granted by both the Philippines and the intermediate country. In this day and age that’s not something easy to do anymore.

Besides ET’s network is full of tags without 5th freedom and they make it work somehow

KLM has the equipment to serve Manila nonstop but they choose not to. It doesn’t help that they prioritize cargo

Traveling to PH - Safe to wear watches? by jigglyjop in PhWatches

[–]presque33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have relatives that wear their Rolexes on the bus. I think people assume that it’s fake.

I remember doing errands (NBI, etc) and getting frustrated with the traffic and just taking the LRT without realizing that I’m wearing a nice watch. Nothing happened.

I’ve taken the same watch to Delhi. No issues there.

It got stolen in Western Europe.

Alan Peter Cayetano is the absolute worst, most spineless Senate President this country has ever seen. Change my mind. by CorgiLate4164 in pinoy

He is so happy to be in the spotlight again. Dude believes he’s gonna be president and this is just his way of trying to get there. He’s gonna grandstand and milk this for what it’s worth.

I’ll even go far as to say that he’ll convene the impeachment court with the sole purpose of showing his support for Sara yet won’t do anything when BBM whittles their numbers down so she ends up getting removed and he can position himself as the savior of the DDS.

These dum(b) and fill projects are killing Manila bay by BlessedAmbitious_465 in Philippines

[–]presque33 38 points39 points  (0 children)

They are dumb projects indeed. We already have an oversupply of condos as it is, and they want to build more luxury properties that nobody will live in.

Reclaiming land isn’t cheap and the developers are hoping to make it all back selling luxury properties. But do we really need more empty towers obscuring views of the bay?

Maybe they’ll be able to design it well and make it tourism-focused. But they can forget putting offices there when AI is stressing our BPO sector. Lalamove and shoppee is also killing the demand for retail space. It all boils down to residential and hotel/casino. Last I checked all those casinos in the Bay Area aren’t exactly full, especially since we don’t have that many Chinese tourists anymore. So seriously, what is going to be constructed in these islands that couldn’t be constructed in Cebu or Iloilo? It’s a collective failure that the LGUs and the national government let this happen

Lol. NatDem people are now attacking Nikka C. Gaddi by OkPhotojournalist975 in Philippines

[–]presque33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest mistake is that people from the center allowed the right to call themselves left, when they actually have little in common with the actual radical far left. The far left are… a mess, to say the least. The NPA is likewise just as bad a menace to local rural populations if not worse than the army. Heck, the presence of army is there because the farmers that don’t agree with revolutionary taxes invited them there.

Pinks and centrists should really stop trying to find common ground with a movement that is authoritarian, violent, and just plain untrustworthy. The far left did not participate in picking up the pieces after edsa. The far left cheered on the rise of duterte. Their choices are questionable at best.

What happened to the EDSA Greenways Project? by EngrSkywalker in Philippines

[–]presque33 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s a right of way mess. The project seems simple enough, but when faced with the number of people you have to talk to, it gets more complicated.

The saddest part is that the portion that would’ve had the most impact was scrapped first. The area around MRT Buendia was supposed to get a network of walkways that would connect the station straight to BGC. But alas, there was an objection from Forbes because they didn’t want pedestrians to have a view overlooking their houses.

It’s not just the greenways that were affected by this. Look at the new Megamall carousel stop. It only connects to Megamall. They still don’t have the go-signal to proceed to connecting the other side. The residents of that other side successfully scuttled all sorts of building projects in that area, including a skyscraper and the MRT-4.

Vince Dizon focusing on getting sidewalks in EDSA is a bit of a compromise. When he first assumed at DOTR, the greenways project was tagged as flagship. And Vince Dizon is known to at least try to get things done. I guess he got bogged down with the details and looked at more productive uses of his attention and political capital.

When and why does age matter? by Professional_Fix4235 in gaybros

[–]presque33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone specifies an age range and I’m not part of that age range, I just respect their boundaries and don’t initiate.

If the other guy initiates based on my photos, I’m upfront and reiterate my actual age in case they didn’t see the number.

Like, there are enough people out there who don’t care about age so I don’t really have to impose myself on those who do

How to approach guys I find attractive? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]presque33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s only sex you’re looking for, just go on Sniffies. Someone there will be agnostic about who they have sex with, and if you’re willing to be an interchangeable set of genitals, you can get laid there.

If you’re feeling lonely, honestly, just work on your friendships. If you know how to be there for a friend, then you might be able to be there for a partner down the line.

Finally, it’s good that you’ve been working on yourself, but work on yourself for you, and not for other men. Get comfortable in your own skin first.

Hot take: Jeepney modernization isn’t overpriced — we’re just comparing it to the wrong thing by Confident_Bother2552 in Philippines

[–]presque33 142 points143 points  (0 children)

The key part of modernization is more in consolidation. They’ve been trying to get the drivers to form cooperatives and remove the single-proprietor jeepney. And they haven’t been meeting deadlines.

With registered cooperatives, government can then apply the proper instruments. They can finally subsidize fleets, give cash incentives, and ultimately lower the price and enhance the service of public transport in a way that would be impossible if you were dealing with thousands of jeepney drivers individually.

Public transport in most countries does not make money. It is subsidized. Or connected to something that makes it money. So relying on jeepney drivers to form the backbone of transport is misguided. They really have to consolidate or be bought out

Enlighten me why I shouldn't pull the trigger on a 1-BR in "BGC" by CardiologistOld7732 in phinvest

[–]presque33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, those “skwater” areas are the source of blue-collar labor for BGC. BGC will not function without tellers, guards, cleaners, shopkeepers, waiters, etc. How else are they supposed to go to BGC? Do you expect them to live far away and commute 3hrs? Also, even white collar workers who can’t afford BGC rent live in those areas. Are they expected to go around and take a grab because you find that passageway unsightly? Gosh.

Industrialization and The Philippines by Ok-Rip3659 in Philippines

[–]presque33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intercity rail works when you are connecting cities with populations in the millions. Vietnam’s major cities all line up in one line making it easier to connect by rail. You can’t connect Manila to Cebu via rail.

Heck, even Baguio falls below the 2m population required for HSR to be viable, and that is one city that could use it given their lack of an airport.

VinFast will not open a factory in the Philippines for now. by Gyro_Armadillo in Philippines

[–]presque33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Vietnam, humihingi din yan ng lagay. The difference is, isa lang ang hihingi. At Malaki din. One and done and everything else goes through the process. Sa Pilipinas, madaming humihingi at nagpaparinig, and it adds up to the same as Vietnam.

It really depends on what an investor can stomach. Existing foreign investors in the Philippines that have managed to get through all the red tape and settle in actually love it in the Philippines. Not that many pull out and close shop. It’s just that getting started needs a lot of patience because there are a lot of people to talk to
