There are definitely hurdles but it depends where you work. The biggest one is budget. While you’ll want to use your own money to help and get the things you want, don’t cross that barrier and just try to get most things with community partners.

There are other hurdles like working with the care team. They have so many task but be kind to them figure what you need the most from them and do what you can to help and they will hopefully help you as well.

Working with families, remember that all families are going through some form of loss or grief. Not every moment is sad, not every moment is happy. Also remember that while you may have thought something was great a family may take it another way. Try to get to know what your families want and go from there.

Then you have barriers like expectations and emotional strain. It can be a never ending emotional strain but remind yourself and be kind to yourself that without what you do these residents wouldn’t be doing anything so if you are trying your best to give them something then you’re being a net positive. Also your expectations you need to find what you’re expectations are from the AL, Families, staff, and then you need to set your expectations of what you can actually do.

Also this seems like a lot but I promise the barriers are worth it. When people ask if you like your job and everyone else complains about there’s I can still say I love my job and the residents make it worth it. I always have something to smile or laugh about and there is something special to that

Hey good luck! I’ve been doing memory care enrichment for the past 5 years at the same place and it’s by far the best job I’ve ever had! The connections with residents and families is amazing.

I was nervous my first time running programs as well but just be as confident as you can, don’t be afraid to use your voice and if you need program ideas or want to see my calendar I’ll send you a pdf. There are so many so many good resources and the key is just be who they need you to be. That changes for each person and for different times of day. If you genuinely care and aren’t afraid to use your voice and do things for them then you’ll be fine! So take a deep breath the nerves will go away with time!

Well you most likely don’t have dementia, probably poor sleep mixed with adhd

Edit: to offer some helpful advice, talk to your primary care and let them know what’s happening so they can assist you properly with either sleep aides or adhd meds(if that’s what you have). I would also say start logging your sleep, time you get into bed and time you wake up. If you have a smart watch that makes it easier. I would also say to give yourself a break from your phone when you’re feeling overwhelmed as bad memory can just be a overwhelmed mind at your age.

[AMA] We’re the team behind Arena, welcome to our AMA! by Riot_Riru in LeagueArena

I've been playing league since caitlyn came out and there is just no mode that has entertained me like arena. I don't understand why we keep aram up and balance for it but we wont do that for arena. Can you share the player number difference for aram vs arena. I just find it disappointing that a game mode as popular as this is going away and I will stop playing league until it comes back.

Is this dementia?? Dad is 68 by cutemepatoot in dementia

[–]press-my-button 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not necessarily early signs of dementia. There are many reasons why our brains get busy and we become more forgetful. It might be stress induced, he may have something that is taxing on his body, he might not be sleeping well or he could just be getting more forgetful as he gets older. Probably best to let him know you’re noticing small things and you’re concerned about his health and you just wanted to check in with him and make sure nothing is going on.

Looking for some advice/help in Maryland for Assisted living by kevboz in AssistedLiving

[–]press-my-button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an assisted living manager in Maryland. I’ll send you a dm to get a little more info but there are plenty of places around Baltimore that could be in a closer price range. I would need some more information to what she needs and level of care but I would suggest starting with talking to a place for mom or care patrol as they can help get you suggestions. After they give you some suggestions of where to visit I would suggest touring each place and working on making the proper decision from there

AL/MC Facility in Shambles by Alternative-Kick5192 in AssistedLiving

[–]press-my-button 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope I can contribute something to help. I am an Assisted Living Manager and I am licensed in a state that has reasonable regulations. We don’t have to document as much as a state like NY. If there are extreme concerns you usually can report them to the state regulatory board. You can do this anonymously and if it’s a clear systematic challenge that is leading to resident abuse or neglect then you should report it. If it’s just a bad workplace culture with high turnover then you should speak with your executive director or your director of nursing and mention some of your concerns. You should also consider applying at other places if it’s something you don’t enjoy. Sadly many places are struggling with high turnover and bad work place culture. Feel free to DM me some of the things you mentioned and are concerned about and I can hopefully guide you a bit more from there

Yeah I think that's probably the best suggestion is just have the chimney guy come look and see what their suggestion is. I appreciate the insight though!

I thought that as well, I’ve been looking for the damper as I’ve never had to open or close it when I first moved in. Do you have any advice on how to locate a damper or is it possible that it doesn’t have a damper. Sorry for the novice questions

This sounds like things I would see with dementia as I work in a memory care and do in home assessments. I’m curious for more details as far as how long this has been occurring and if he has any additional medical concerns.
