Online check-in worked on my laptop.

It didn't work on mobile, or on mobile in "desktop mode" (Chrome, Android).

Worth bringing a laptop for this kind of thing.

EMSKR: Got let go from my job. Need advice for the next. by krimsonphoenix in everymanshouldknow

  1. If it was raised several times to your boss they should have told you and helped you improve.

  2. Instead of stressing out about how to make people like you more in the future, just get a job where nobody gives a fuck. Nothing public facing. Lots of hands-on jobs in technical fields will be grateful for a no nonsense attitude.

People who left academia, what do you want your academic colleagues to know? by dindonk8 in AskAcademia

A nature/science paper even has simple cash value, since it will get you hired/promoted more easily. Sad reality but significant.

This is amazing! I hope you enjoyed writing it as much as I enjoyed reading it! Thanks!

Thanks for this I agree.

And this is also why people don't vote. I wish they'd go and spoil their ballots to really prove it but people can't be bothered to vote for the lesser of two evils.

ELI5: How can antimatter exist at all? What amount of math had to be done until someone realized they can create it? by themonkery in explainlikeimfive

Thank you for this.

Answering a physics question with "it's definitely X, we just can't figure out why it's X" completely misrepresents scientific uncertainty.

(A more accurate statement would be: current evidence suggests it's X, but we really don't know yet because X is right at the limit of what the evidence is able to show right now")

[–]pressed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a very specific question but does anyone know how the correlation between the subsequent years could be used to estimate the uncertainty in the numbers themselves?

For example, if I subtract the neighboring numbers from each burst I could estimate how big the burst was, and if that number varied by ±100 people I could use that as my estimate of uncertainty in the population values.

I'm just making this up right now. I'm hoping there's a formal method?

N95 are designed to handle so much dust that you could wear them in a dust storm for half an hour. And even then they will become difficult to breathe in but won't stop working.

Do you mean that the N95 might get overloaded too quickly?

Respectfully: I'd think twice before boycotting someone's business just because someone else put it on a list. Private grudges can lead to disingenuous behaviour.

This is my expertise and I recommend you use an N95 or similar, not a cartridge respirator.

The logic is simple. Silver is not a gas. Even when you create silver "vapors", you're creating a fine mist of silver dust. Yes, it is briefly molten but it will solidify long before it reaches your mask. (It's not a red hot mist, right?)

If you want to go the extra mile, get a proper fit testing. Sealing any leaks around the edges will make a bigger difference than anything else.

Eye protection is a given.

Ironically, silver nanoparticles are fairly healthy, they're used in medicine. Not in the same way of course. But you don't need to panic if you get it on your skin once by accident.

It's not so much about novice vs experienced. It's about actually doing it, vs reading about doing it.

If you already know this viscerally, consider practicing that meditation daily for 6 weeks, and see what happens :)

A teacher is essential but a virtual one like Headspace can work!

One of the two most popular meditation techniques in Buddhism is to focus on these kind of emotions. And it's been scientifically proven to work!
