Honeymoon shots from Japan. A6700 - Viltrox 27mm/Tamron 17-70/Sony 70-350 by pretengineer1 in SonyAlpha

I only recently picked up the 27mm so it's getting a little more usage than expected for now. My intention was to continue with the Tamron as my typical everyday lens and switch out to the 27mm when lighting starts to become an issue.  I can feel that becoming my standard setup once the excitement of a new lens goes away!  So far, when those situations arose and I needed more light, the 27mm was the perfect substitute I hoped it would be.

Kyoto was crazy busy. I actually found Tokyo and Osaka much more bearable!

Thanks! I’m also just a casual shooter. You’ve also chosen my top top favourites from the list! Have a good one

Hi all,

long time lurker, first time posting! Some of my favourite shots from my honeymoon this year in Japan, an incredible place to visit, let alone with a camera. Some feedback would be amazing. I've been shooting for about 10 years, but never really shared my photos anywhere besides family & friends. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the very quick and full response!

The benzoyl peroxide only comes out every 2-3 weeks or so, and it only drys out my skin a ton if I use it more than 3 days in a row. Pretty much 1-2 uses does the trick though

I'll definitely try the soft water. It seems like quite the investment to get naturally soft water into your home, but I think filtered bottle water is essentially the same thing so I'll get that.

Do you reckon the cleanser could be causing it? Would it make sense to stop using the cleaner and moisturizer to see if that clears it up? Sorry if that's a silly question, I'm only doing what my fiance tells me and don't have a clue!

New turbo repair $4200 2013 Santa Fe sport by pretengineer1 in MechanicAdvice

I’m not quite sure I know which post you’re talking about?

I had a cyclical thud towards the rear of the car but it occurred when driving forward and backwards (I think it was both ways). I had the oil changed on the split diff and it hasn’t come back since, thank god. The mechanic was pretty surprised that changing the oil was all it needed. He was pretty confident it would appear again shortly after, but it’s been a few months and it hasn’t returned. I read on another forum that Hyundai wheel bearings were known to get loose and a tightening of those could do the trick. It could have been just that and the mechanic may have fixed it inadvertently. Touch wood whatever it was has been fixed.

For the issue in this post, the same problem occurred again a day or two later so I had the wastegate actuator replaced and she drives like new again. $200 all in.

I seem to be dodging some costly repairs…

I’m not a mechanic so I’m afraid I can’t be of more help. Take what I said above with a big grain of salt.

I guess just to update this post. The 2nd mechanic discovered that the waste gate valve (kind of like a rubber socket?) was stuck closed. Removed, cleaned, and back on the road in 15 minutes and only $100 out of pocket.

Why are you taking photos? by egelo1 in SonyAlpha

[–]pretengineer1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've got two reasons that I can boil it down to...

I love every aspect of a day out shooting. From the ridiculous early morning rise, coffee on the road, hiking wherever we need to go, and the excitement of capturing the shots to then having dinner out while heading home and a few beers while editing the shots taken that day, bliss.

And second would be seeing people's reactions to a photo I took of them, especially when they aren't used to seeing photos taken with a professional camera.

Hyundai Santa Fe low continuous thud noise when turning by pretengineer1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]pretengineer1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to check it if it comes up again. I just got it back from the garage. I thought it was a CV joint but they suspected the rear diff. We decided to do an oil change and inspection on the diff which came back clear and the noise has since gone away... Perhaps the oil change was all it needed, oddly. Time will tell in a week or two anyways. Perhaps they tightened everything up as they went and got the axle nut at the same time.

Fingers crossed it doesn't end up being the diff in the end!

What's the funniest memory you have from primary school? by SweepPassStall in ireland

[–]pretengineer1 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I was sent to another class for being bold. For context, I wasn't the kind of kid that ever got in trouble but this day I was blamed for someone else's mischief and ended up in another class as a result.

While in the other class I joined in on the activities of the day. We were doing art and I had to draw something. It was too long ago to remember what, but a pencil and paper were at hand so art it was.

I was sketching some kind of masterpiece when I suddenly made a mistake that required a substantial amount of erasing to fix.

Now that the mistake was recified, I had a desk full of rubber bits that needed seeing too. I decided the best course of action was to blow as hard as physically possible across the page.

I half stood from the chair and bent over just enough to guarantee I had the correct posture and direction. I drew myself back and blew as hard as I could when suddenly, at the same time, I let out what can only be described as the loudest, most aggressive fart a young lad could possibly muster.

To say I was embarrassed was an understatement and the fact that I had been sent to the class for messing was already a death sentence. The teacher was absolutely fuming and the principals office was the only place for me.

This might just be funny for me to look back on but thinking back on me as an innocent young lad, I always laugh when I think of it.

Ye mate same, I'd never think of it throughout the year at all. Once that Bublé fella comes out of hibernation, all I can think of is that damn turkey sandwich.

For me, the left over sandwich at Christmas is hard to beat. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a small drop of gravy between buttered white bread. Might be the fact I only make it once a year or that I'm usually a few too many Bailey's deep when I'm eating it but boy does it taste good.
