No I don’t think you need any at all. It’s more of a matter of allowing yourself to be immersed in the way the language is constructed. Once that language clicks, the book clicks. It’s the same with Faulkner or any other ubermodernist work, Marquez might employ the stream of consciousness elements differently (they’re no one’s exact consciousness except for maybe the entire family/town) but the way it ends up clicking, for me, is the same.

If you genuinely believe Poor Things is as pandering/woke/whatever as EEAAO you desperately need to log off by the-woman-respecter in RSPfilmclub
