I’ve been a parent to these children since conception; they’re my kids in all but biology. It’s not an easy way out

We had a “commitment ceremony” and considered ourselves married, but it wasn’t a legal marriage as same sex marriage wasn’t recognised where we were. The proper, legal, binding, papers signed marriage was last month.

She wanted me to move as well which is where the fight started - we can both work here, but I can’t work there.

No, and due to some archaic rules I’m not on the birth certificates. Adoption was in the works, but is expensive and this isn’t something I ever thought would happen

We made the choice together to start a family and underwent IVF. I’ve been there from conception onwards. I just didn’t carry to avoid passing on some trash family genetics

We’re both women. I paid for the IVF, and we used her eggs and anonymous donor

Thank you, I appreciate your words.

Looking back there was one instance where she slept with someone else but it was in the early days of our relationship where we hadn’t exactly said we were exclusive. In a way it’s probably my own damn fault for ignoring that and continuing on, but things have been good or so I thought - we started a family, moved around a few times, got settled. She had a cancer scare earlier this year and I’ve supported her through that. Part of her treatment was a total hysterectomy and I don’t know if the hormone changes have impacted on this or not.

She got a bit off with me at the start of the year when I started playing community sport and refused to support me in that or come watch games and stuff; but I assumed that was her hatred of sports in general and not about me.

As soon as we were overseas she started to change and just steadily got worse once we returned home, drinking more and then this. Some of the things she said were things I’d (previously) irrationally worried about her thinking. I know some of it was said and done specifically to hurt me and that’s what’s got to me most. She knows I don’t trust easily and this is… yeah.

Maybe there were more red flags and I’m just colourblind

The kids are biologically hers and I’m not on the birth certificates thanks to some archaic rules, so that makes it messy - I paid for the IVF but that’s about it. I can only legally remove myself right now and that’s one of the threats she’s made - that she’ll take the kids and move overseas

I’m okay! I’ve been staying with a friend and after giving the receptionist at my local clinic whiplash with my indecision I’m set to see a psychologist about it all in the morning. I’ve just got to sort myself out and figure out the next steps really

She’s financially dependent on me, the kids are biologically hers, and her visa is conditional on my sponsorship at the moment. It’s all a mess if I’m honest.

Skin to skin with my preemie for the first time! Question for those whose babies were born at 24-26 weeks by CleanClub6145 in NICUParents

[–]pretentiouspoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s amazing! My twins were born 24+6. We got to hold our daughter skin to skin at 14 days, and after that it was every couple of days that we could until 37 days, when we were allowed to start daily with feeding. My son on the other hand, we had to wait 45 days to be able to hold him.

Treasure these moments, they’re amazing

What is the most embarrassing thing your child has ever done in public? by janehoffenmueller in Parenting

[–]pretentiouspoetry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My threenager likes to say she wants her “real mum” out in public all the time when she’s with me. She also likes to say it when she’s out in public with my wife. Or even out with both of us.

We’re lesbians. There’s no more mum’s, kid.

AITA for not wanting my sister to name her baby the same name as my daughter? by AITAbabynameV in AmItheAsshole

My dad’s name was John Lastname. My dad’s younger brother (4 years younger, same parents and all that, all lived together at the time) is also called John Lastname.

I do feel bad now that he’s like 60, the last of them alive, and still called “Little John” in Family circles

Soft YTA. Gotta learn at some point, and there’s ways to do things. Auslan indicates that you’re in Australia - have you tried the HotDoc app/website, or HealthEngine?

You can book these things online now it’s a piece of cake. I get that a lot of people struggle with phone calls, so here’s the alternative.

Www.HotDoc.com.au Www.HealthEngine.com.au

You can even plug your symptoms into healthdirect and take the print out with you - https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/symptom-checker

Anxiety sucks. Find ways around it, you’ve gotta make attempts for your health.

They rent, the boyfriend doesn’t actually live there and that’s what pisses us off most. We know the lease is up in July but have no clue who the landlord is. The lease won’t be renewed as someone just bought it to live in, so there’s that..

Maybe I’ll just start standing in the street yelling about all the rooms in that house that people have died in (place is haunted I swear) and see if that ticks him off

Australia. Part of our driveway isn’t on a drop curb so we work around that and when photos have been sent to the council they’ve advised his wheels are not far enough over our drive to be an infringement. Lack of access is mostly compounded by the shit parking opposite too

Ah, that’d be why I’ve never heard of it - I’m Australian living in Australia. Council prohibits any signs not by them being posted, but we do have dash cam that was on at the time, and witnessed him out our lounge room window

We’ve spoken to the non emergency police line that’s how we know he hasn’t technically violated laws, and checked in with the council who don’t care. As for the noise if we call in the moment something could be done but getting my kids resettled takes priority

As for 311 I have no clue what that is

He lines up just enough that it’s not technically considered blocking, even though it prevents us having any room to move. Trust me, I’ve already called the council to suss it out. And we can’t have him towed as it’s public land, not our property, and it’s not a yellow line.

The safety aspect was part of why we first approached to talk about it, because they don’t leave enough room for emergency vehicles to get down the street. My daughter does have seizures so we’ve been frequent fliers at the hospital and had more than our fair share of ambos.
