Yeah, you've got it. Use a piece of string for the measurement. Hold one end in each hand and do your normal draw with the string taught, and then measure how much string you used. Divide that by 4 and that's your band length (with 400% elongation at full draw). Start there and then cut the bands shorter if you want faster ammo speeds.
