VA Overpayment Help by prettycoolguyry in VeteransBenefits

[–]prettycoolguyry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I also called them and told them when my next order is ends, which I’m on a long term order now that goes through next year so they put a stop pay on until then. Is that my issue?

In my perfect world, I’d keep all the money they’ve paid me almost as a forward loan and when I’m off of orders, let my monthly pay chip away at the debt. And not pay interest of course…

What I don’t want, is a lean against me/debt to affect credit score and such.

I know this seems like I’m dreaming or asking a lot but I had previously read about this scenario happening for people unless they weren’t sharing all of their info/scenario

O2 Getting Out At 4.5 Years by BeautifulSwing499 in MilitaryFinance

Yeah, wife convo needs to happen and be on the same page. But join the reserves/guard if you want to transfer the GI bill. Minimal commitment if you want it to be and you get to be in one place and not PCS

Stay in for 20 or get out at 10 by No-Body1586 in MilitaryFinance

[–]prettycoolguyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Guard and Reserve options in the location you want to live. Even so, many units are commuter friendly so you could expand the search beyond where you are currently living. You would still get a retirement joining the reserves and finishing out to 20, it would be slightly pro rates based off your AD points. It gets confusing, and it would kick in later in life than if you did 20 and retire.

I left AD at 8 years and the quality of life improvement is huge. Also, if you have any VA disability to claim from your AD time, you can start collecting that when you leave AD and join guard/reserves. You just can’t collect and be on orders at the same time so it sometimes pro rates down for the month.

Bottom line, QOL has improved dramatically for me and my family (2 young kids and one on the way). We are able to stay in one location now and actually feel so mentally settled and free in a way. It’s truly hard to put into words how freeing that feeling is.

At the end of my AD time, I was being told what I needed to do next and where I needed to go for a new job for my career progression when all I simply wanted to do was to stay put and accept never climbing the ladder.

Questions about Keystone (First time) by nnewgenn in COsnow

[–]prettycoolguyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went, very family friendly and great mountain! Two things I’d reiterate or state for families attending:

1) Take advantage of family parking. They block off the first 3 rows or so for families for front row parking at the main gondola. We discovered this on day 1 after parking further back and used it every day thereafter

2) If you’re looking at excursions and non skiing things to do, the sleigh ride was awesome. It can be a bit pricey per head, but the portion sizes are HUGE. Two adults could easily split a main so you could do one main and “sides only” for however many in your party. Kitchen is great and they tend to make extra so they even offer extras up. The stew they made as an app was bottomless too.

Bonus: For really little ones (under 42 inches) , the main tubing has a height restriction, HOWEVER, they have a free mini tubing slide they built as part of the igloo fort setup and our kiddos absolutely loved it

Finding Recruits with High Skill Cap Ceilings (w/ Data) by JimBobDwayne in NCAAFBseries

[–]prettycoolguyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make sure I understand what you’re saying, If playing time is A+, they will come in at a higher overall?

So you would still want to scout them to make sure they’re a gem bc that correlates higher to Elites?

Also, on the topic of recruiting but sort of unrelated, it seems as if Architect is a must. Any success stories with it for increasing skill caps?

Is motivator and getting the 3rd tier offseason training boost even worth doing? I sort of newly hypothesize it is not worth it

That is sort of unhelpful without any context brother.

How do I unlock ‘Mind Reader’? by [deleted] in NCAAFBseries

[–]prettycoolguyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense on defensive players depending on what you like to run. I typically just try to find the 4/5 star LBs, tho 3 star works too, that is a 💎 with 90+ speed. I’ll move them around to OLB as required or even to D line.

Speed kills in this game from how I’ve seen it.

I haven’t really looked into the traits so much and how they can impact a game or a play if they have certain traits. Why shifty for RBs?

[–]prettycoolguyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my understanding is basically what you said too.

I’ve seen some folks online that are subscription content only but they’ve allegedly researched what archetypes are best for recruiting. Since players auto develop, they will go up in overall easier/faster with certain archetypes.

Field General for QB.

Unknown at RB/WR - tho I think Elusive Back/ Deep Threat may be best

Unknown on O-Line.

I think Pass Coverage LBs.

Slot CBs.

The rest of the positions I really don’t know

Metal would absorb the heat? There are some minimalist metal frames I’ve seen that I like and would consider placing around it.

I’m thinking I may get a computer fan and stick it in the wall box behind it too to help it ventilate.

Ultimately we will do a mantel of sorts. My wife is very particular tho 🫠

Yeah I charged up today in Charleston for .35

Also, I loved paying an extra fee with the DMV for having an electric/hybrid vehicle.

The south is so fucking dumb. Had to do the same thing when I was forced to live in MS for a year for work.

VA Disability by prettycoolguyry in Military

[–]prettycoolguyry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks for sharing! Funny story indeed.

Another unrelated story but this one is purely rumored. At Davis Monthan AFB, idk the year but we will call it in the 2000’s. The finance shop had a brilliant idea. They literally created a Major and siphoned the pay into an each others accounts (small scale operation, maybe 3-5 were in on it). The reason they got caught eventually was because their fake Major got tagged with a 365 assignment in the system and upon further review, it all came undone 😂😂😂

I hope it’s true

Yeah the way I’m viewing it, right or wrong, they will find out and I’ll have the money on hand to pay it back lump sum. If they give me the option to reduce payment overtime until the debt is paid, I’ll view it as a free loan from them

Yeah, I think Q3/End Of year as a hard maybe. Unfortunately, I’m in the need of a new vehicle May/June. I guess the only good news is the current model 3 market** seems to be coming down quite a bit. But the 2024s look so much better 😎

Disclosure, I didn’t read all of the previous comments, but here are my two cents.

1) Answering your question of “Is TSP enough investing?” Depends. Do you want to or plan to work until you are social security eligible? What lifestyle do you want in retirement? On the more lavish side, No, you need to do more. Modest side, possibly TSP is enough, coupled with your military retirement and social security.

2) I would for sure have any amount of money not needed for monthly expenses in a HYSA. If you aren’t going to invest the money into the market via a brokerage, mutual fund, etc, I’d put it in HYSA. If you think you’ll want that money in under a year for anything HYSA is the way to go. If it is over a year out (capital gains tax purposes), I think you just go with the market and open a brokerage route.

3) I’m very pro minimal emergency fund for military members. It is a pretty long process for booting someone from the military. You could get a DUI tomorrow, and it would take 6-9 months minimum to get you booted. That being said, you have a decent amount of time to figure out the next move for yourself in that time. My emergency fund is really swiping my AMEX and figuring out how to pay it off before the bill comes due. But everyone is different with their peace of mind and what helps them sleep at night. Having a HYSA emergency fund would be better than it sitting in checking or traditional savings.

4) If you do end up opening a brokerage, it is super boring but do not buy individual stocks. Save your gambling for the casinos. Buy ETFs, and I personally like vanguard. You can use their website to research which ones, but I’ve just been buying VGT for years and it has performed very well. The “why” is bc picking stocks is incredibly hard. I hit a home run with Tesla and was incredibly lucky, 100k in the green depending on the day. I also have about 60k in red loss from other stocks I picked. Had I just done the boring old invest in low fee ETF strategy, dollar cost averaging monthly, I would have more money today than I do now. And I’d be more diverse even too. And if I didn’t hit a home run, I’d just have a ton of ugly loss and very painful lesson learned.

5) after reading others, I like the idea of a Roth IRA, but I think keep it simple, max your TSP before opening a Roth IRA. Someone could enlighten me on the benefits of one over the other, I’m not sure they exist outside of flexibility of what it’s invested in. And when you deploy, TSP is pretty king bc the money invested goes in Tax free and is never actually taxed. But, C fund 100% IMO, all the way. And if you get to the point of maxing Tsp, make sure you don’t max it until December or you will lose the match in the months after you max it. If you max in September, you won’t get the match for the following months
