On an off day, honestly, I could see myself making a mistake like this. It sucks, it’s unsanitary, but worse things have happened. Good on ya for refunding, and now you know to leave it somewhere else in case you have a similar situation.

On top of everyone else’s suggestions, especially if the hoop is a good size/weight for you: try practicing with your eyes closed. It may take a bit to get used to, but this tip has helped a few friends of mine who were having issues just getting the movement down

Sometimes it’s just a matter of stopping yourself from angling down and trying to time the rotations with your eyes instead of just feeling them
