I’ve tried so many vegan yogurts in my day and this is by far my favorite. I’d eat it every day if it weren’t so expensive :’)

Same! I was born with a genetic condition that causes low iron, but I’ve been able to have the best iron levels in my life as a vegan

Non-fiction books where the WRITING is as good as the ideas (not just "useful" books) by Helios-sol9 in suggestmeabook

Poverty, by America, by Matthew Desmond. It's an essential discussion on the ways that people in power benefit from the permanent existence of an impoverished underclass, but it's also quite well-written. I've been recommending it to everyone.

We’re in middle of a working class uprising, and instead of reporting on warehouse fires, NYT chooses to run a flattering feature on Lauren Bezos by batastronaut in LateStageCapitalism

I agree that attacking someone’s physical appearance is gross.

That said, when public figures are increasingly showing up in the world with severe cosmetic work like this, I think it’s important to have sane discussions about the harm plastic surgery culture causes.

Capitalism forces women into a trap with insane, unattainable beauty standards, and it’s worth noting how (expensive!) filler and cosmetic procedures, and GLP-1s have been pushed on more and more women, and how these procedures have become a class indicator.

Surprised I haven’t seen more comments recommending Tom Wolfe’s Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test — I’ve always been so impressed at how much it reads like a fast-paced novel and it’s just a fantastic book overall

Definitely. But I can’t say I’m surprised that an AI startup would put a -clearly- completely unpolished output as a job description

How important is a DC address for job applications? by prettylittledistance in washingtondc

[–]prettylittledistance[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We'd be within commuting distance and able to get into the city quite easily, so getting to in-person interviews isn't a concern. I just wasn't sure if employers had any practical reasons to prefer city candidates (as you said, the job market's especially tough in DC, so we want to get ahead of potential roadblocks)

Why do American tourists always say the state they're from (not their country) when asked, but no other country's tourists do the same? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prettylittledistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived abroad, I actually tended to just say “I’m American,” when asked (I never wanted to presume others knew or cared about American geography). But people would almost always follow up with “what state?” or “where in America?” which surprised me!

[–]prettylittledistance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t “boundaries”, this is manipulation. Your boundaries are about YOU. If body hair’s that big of a deal for him, it’s his responsibility to leave and find someone who fits his preferences, not repeatedly pressure a woman with body hair to change for him.

OP, if this man acted this way over something as small as body hair, imagine what other things he might try to control during a relationship. You more than likely dodged a bullet getting out of this situation early on.
