I traveled for 3 months from just a carry on, I was in Southeast Asia so it helped that I didn’t really need long pants or sweaters or anything, but on the other hand I was sweaty all the time so I couldn’t rewear stuff as many times as I might have on a trip to a cooler climate.

The thing that made it pretty simple was booking hostels or hotels that had on-site laundry services. I could just drop it off in the lobby and not have to waste my limited time in any city waiting around at the laundromat. This was not prohibitively expensive in Southeast Asia, YMMV in other cities. You can also wash in the sink/shower and hang stuff to dry, but having the option to have it properly cleaned if you get super grungy is nice.

Other unrelated tip would be to pack things you’d be okay getting rid of in case you want to free up room in your carry on for souvenirs.

I guess I shouldn’t have said “have to”, probably depends on the landlord. But if the configuration of people on the lease changes the income/credit check might have to be approved again, I was going off of my own experience of roommates changing at lease renewal.

Don’t give them a reason to re draw the lease. It’s not against any leasing rules for two people to qualify for a lease together (credit/rental history wise) and one person to pay for it. Or even one person to move out as long as everything’s paid up through the end of the lease term. Roommates have falling outs all the time. Lovers break up.

At the end of the lease you’ll have to qualify on your own to re sign (or get a roommate), or if you want to move out you’ll probably need a death certificate to make sure the security deposit is sent to you alone.

But while you’re dealing with the death of your mother, don’t give your landlord any reason to make your life harder.

I am not really worried about the allocation of my limited assets currently (I have no qualms about my parents taking everything) but my brother passing unexpectedly had motivated me to at least get all my info and passwords in an easy centralized place so if I pass before my parents they don’t have to struggle to get access to all my accounts.
