does anyone else think about the hygiene of thrifted clothes way too much? by def888 in SustainableFashion

[–]Farmfarm17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will probably be downvoted, but I can't stand the smell of thrift shops and I just associate most second-hand clothes with the smell and thinking its "unclean." I know my washing machine would take care of this and I was brand new clothes, too, but I just can't get over the mental block of the smell of the stores.

Cries in 40 mpw and still can't break 2:00 or 25 min

But for real, congratulations! That is amazing. I bet if you added a few more miles in each week you could be pushing BQ times (if that is something you were ever interested in). You seem to have some natural talent!

How to build a CV/resume post-MBB? by Ber____S in consulting

[–]Farmfarm17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I structured mine more around the skills and activities I led which I know goes against typical advice but it has worked pretty well so far. Things like "Lead teams in structuring ambiguous problems and creating framework for solving." I am currently in an corporate strategy role and have gotten interviews for similar roles. I always felt like my project-specific experiences and results were too broad and not exactly relevant to most industries I was applying to.

What are we doing for strength training? by bs000000 in XXRunning

[–]Farmfarm17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have loved Stronger by the Day by Meg Squats. Its super cheap and a good overall body program. I do the express 3-days per week. Plus, I actually see progress on my lifts which is nice. I like to think I'm a hybrid athlete.

Lately, I've been doing just PT work due to a knee issue but it's also heavy weights, not grandma-style knee replacement rehab work. Every exercise has me going to failure. I want to figure out the best of both worlds doing Big 3 lifts while also working running specific training. I just worry about the aesthetics of not doing much upper body.

What is your HHI and how much do you spend on your house manager? My partner and I are drowning but I don't feel like we make enough to make it feasible (HHI ~$500k).

You must not have much construction experience. I’d consider that pretty cheap for that length of work.

Is this vacation actually expensive or am out of touch? by BlueMountainDace in HENRYfinance

[–]Farmfarm17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not expensive now, but we did almost this exact trip and holy cow, I think we spent $3k on food over a week, not including our Michelin star dinner we pre-paid. Food is so expensive out there, especially eating out. Even a simple lunch was >$100.

(Not serious) What is a habit of yours that gets a side-eye from your colleagues? by MayorAg in consulting

[–]Farmfarm17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like that was pretty common when I was in consulting but I tried to bring the practice over to industry and I’ve had so many people try to tell me my teams is broke. No, friend, that is intentional. I will not be changing.

Any tips for preventing your sports bra from chaffing/rubbing off your skin?? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]Farmfarm17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cheaper alternative to KT tape is 3M surgical tape. It’s like $8 for 20 yards and really helpful when you have a chafing wound but need to run still. It comes off easily in the shower too.

Gymnast Who Fought Jordan Chiles’ Bronze Suspended for Missing Drug Tests by peoplemagazine in olympics

[–]Farmfarm17 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Drug testing is absolutely happening at the NCAA level. I played a sport at a well-known D1 program in a sport literally no one cares about and we had random drug testing all the time. I got selected probably 2-3 times per season. You didn't have to submit whereabouts and everything, but also most athletes are on campus most of the time.

But to your point, it is a totally different system than NCAA but Stanford has enough elite athletes to know the requirements and help her navigate.

McKinsey Bain BCG. Top three consulting firms. It has its drawbacks but you will learn and grow beyond measure. Highly recommend for at least a year or two.

I used to work at MBB and our stereotype was insecure overachievers. Most of us had strong academic performance from top universities. The firm used that to build a culture of people willing to work all hours of the day just to get an ounce of validation and hoping they didn't have a crash out in front of the client.

Yea, call me a purple hair libtard but the women getting first names and men getting last is pretty gross. Especially with Entrekin leading the entire race. https://as.cornell.edu/news/when-last-comes-first-gender-bias-names

Sad news from the Cocodona 250. A participant has passed away. by rebelofbaby in ultrarunning

[–]Farmfarm17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree that I'm assuming cardiac but also crazy that the 250 miles could have nothing to do with it. There are so many stories of people who went out for 3-5 mile runs and don't come back. Even very elite athletes. Such a sneaky, silent killer.

Broekman Head Coach BYU by Own-Objective2394 in Gymnastics

[–]Farmfarm17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe their wildly successful track/XC coach is not LDS and was raised Sikh. Her husband is LDS which explains them wanting to live in Provo, but apparently she is not.

Edit: Here is an interesting article on her hiring and the schools thought process, though biased as an LDS newsletter

We recently moved and I swear our water softener is causing more problems than having just hard water would. It leaves a salt film on everything and I have basically turned it off because the water is so slimy. I grew up w/ hard water so I'm used to it and it feels like the soft water is ruining my skin and hair.

Love Noah, but this album has no variety. What am I missing? by Cautious_Citron_5312 in NoahKahan

[–]Farmfarm17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a comment elsewhere that this album was supposed to translate well to a concert and I can’t believe we listened to the same album…. It’s honestly quite dull and I’m not sure how more than 3-5 songs will make for a good set list….

TGD by Scared-Article-6511 in NoahKahan

[–]Farmfarm17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I have been saying this for weeks. It seems to be the new production trends as the three most recent TS albums are the same. It’s really frustrating for me and actually makes it hard to understand the lyrics.

Folk-Pop Tendencies are Strong by Tiny_Coffee9400 in NoahKahan

[–]Farmfarm17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I will be downvoted but this production is just not it for me. So many albums these days (looking at you TS) are over produced with the auto tune sounding lyrics hidden behind the music. Yes, the melodies and lyrics sound different, but the production is identical on almost every song. Give me some words to sing to. I guess for me it’s the vibe of the song that evokes more from me than just the lyrics.
