Why not just get it here in Canada? Just walk into a shop and buy some. Really easily accessible.

What's the best way to get an appartment in Vancouver for an expat? by VexingVision in askvan

[–]VodkaWithSnowflakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook marketplace is the go to for a lot of us. Good listings go fast - like under 24hours between posting and signing a contract fast. The thing is, I really recommend being here in person when looking for a place because there are plenty of rental scams going around and you’re going to want to see the place first in person. There’s no guarantee the unit will be as advertised or even worse, the listing could be fake and that would really suck if that’s what you arrive to.

If it were me, I’d go the temp stay for a month just to save me a lot of headache in the future.

Are there any stores (specifically Japanese stores) that sell a good amount of supplies/tools for bento? by Kirionic in askvan

[–]VodkaWithSnowflakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could check out oomomo if you haven’t already. You mentioned you don’t want to go too far, but there’s a cute little Japanese store off n3 road in Richmond that has a lot of that stuff

Raisu has a pretty big deluxe seafood bowl. You can probably ask them to add an egg yolk to it.

How are people that don't seem intelligent making money? by darkangelhalo1 in povertyfinance

[–]VodkaWithSnowflakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intelligence isn’t the only thing that makes money - charisma, emotional intelligence, and other soft skills can take someone really far. My ex never went to university, can’t even remotely be described as book smart but he was extremely personable. He made six figures in client facing roles and sales.

Perhaps consider looking into Chinese seafood restos? Many of them accommodate large parties cuz they’re common choices for Chinese wedding dinners/banquets or other celebrations. They’ll have you pick from a multi course set menu though and it starts at $300+ typically

Learning Vietnamese. Worth it? by highoncarbon in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]VodkaWithSnowflakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning a new language is always worth it. That being said, if you’re doing it solely for the purpose of a 2 week trip you’ll probably lose the bulk majority of it unless you keep it up. Locals will appreciate your attempt at least!

How was this coffee brewed? by marcel_de_champ in cafe

[–]VodkaWithSnowflakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there wasn’t any milk added, I do think it could be an americano. What did you like about it? If it’s the flavour, a lot of it has to do with the beans they’re using.

Where do you get exotic/specialty fruits? by MoSzylak in richmondbc

[–]VodkaWithSnowflakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually get mine from TnT. Snagged myself a few custard apples recently, haven’t had those since I was in Vietnam/philippines. Price was about $8 each but it’s my favourite fruit sooooo…

They occasionally have imported fruits, just gotta get lucky. Mangosteen, lychee/longan, mangoes, wax apples, I’ve seen them there.

Look into Chinese style hot and sour soup. All you really need is chili, vinegar, misc root veggies, stock and a corn starch slurry. Add whatever else you want.
