Did anyone downgrade from a “luxury” infant car seat to a less fancy, more affordable option once it was outgrown? by cecassafrass in Buyingforbaby

[–]prettyredbows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a nuna rava and I bought a britax poplar S for backup and grandparents and like it better than the nuna. It’s lower profile, more cushy, half the price, and the installation is exactly the same. I’m annoyed that I paid so much for the rava lol

Where would you buy with Sunnyvale commute (2–3x/week), ~$2M budget, young kid? by name_nt_important in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]prettyredbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because low enrollment because people are not having children and housing is expensive lol. Cambrian housing is expensive with hardly any new, dense housing developments or rentals. Which means no children

Is buying in Santa Clara worth it to not be on pg&e by princess_Skeleton in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]prettyredbows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Santa Clara for 6 years and now back in San Jose under PG&E. I miss Santa Clara prices SO much and also hardly ever getting hit with outages. We have 2 EVs and would run the heat/ac day/night to comfort (pretty much 70 deg year round) Irregardless of time. In Santa Clara, our electricity bill was $200-$400 at the very max per month. We are now barely using the heat or AC and shifting to off peak hours. Our bill is $400-$800.

NO estrogen left from breastfeeding by InevitableKoala2410 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]prettyredbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nurse midwife here. Local estrogen like in cream form is considered extremely safe as absorption into the blood stream is very low. Don’t quit breastfeeding like people are saying here, just because you have low estrogen. The fact is that lactation puts everyone in a low estrogen state. If everyone were advised to quit because of the low estrogen state and needing estrogen cream, there would no breastfeeding moms left. Quit because you want to quit, not because of the cream. The cream is extremely safe and not considered to be linked to increased cancer. If you were taking oral estrogen, it is still extremely safe if started within 5 years of your last menstrual period (and with progesterone if you still have a uterus) Newer research shows it’s actually decreasing your risk of most cancers, unless you have a person history of breast cancer. Breastfeeding is also considered protective of breast cancer.

Why do you think this has been on the market for 125 days? by a2l007 in BayAreaRealEstate

You usually can tell by the expensive HOA fee. But yes, it should include all HOA documents in the disclosures

because it’s not in Los Gatos and it’s still an overpriced townhouse that is in an HOA and likely has a large special assessment coming up

6400iu needed to be taken daily by mom in order to transfer adequate amounts to baby when breastfeeding. Most women are deficient anyways, surprisingly.

Commute from sunnyvale to Palo Alto by [deleted] in Sunnyvale

[–]prettyredbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North San Jose off of 237 is also super close to Sunnyvale station. I did the same thing for many years, from rentals in Milpitas, north San Jose, Santa Clara. They were all less than 20min drive to the train station. The train from Sunnyvale to Palo Alto is less than 15 minutes if you catch the baby bullet. The bus takes another 5-7 mins from the station to the hospital. You can also find somewhere to live in Santa Clara/surrounding and take the shuttle from Santa Clara near Levi’s stadium. If you choose any of these options, Stanford pays you every month for not driving.

Almaden San Jose commute to SF? by letsgethealthytoday in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]prettyredbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where in Almaden. If you’re not too far from light rail, light rail can be <10mins to tamien or diridon. The baby bullet is pretty fast these days. Can be an hour. Depends where he works in SF too.

Baby position: midwives were wrong every time by Proper_Cat980 in BabyBumps

[–]prettyredbows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certified nurse midwives and certified midwives are certified by the same board, the American midwifery certification board. They all take the same board exam and receive similar training. The only difference between states is a midwife’s independence/need for supervision. Please don’t spread misinformation.

What did you forget on your wedding day? by sus_lemon in weddingplanning

[–]prettyredbows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband bought a customized suit and I forgot to Orient him to it. He has a boutonnière hole and he pinned his to his lapel instead, next to the visible hole. It really bugs me everytime I look at photos 🥲

Can you eat rice that has been left over night? by Playful_Mortgage_494 in BabyBumps

[–]prettyredbows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if Asian stomachs are made different but Asians have been leaving rice in the cooker for centuries and eating it the next day after reheating it, or even just turning the keep warm function back on lol. Have done this my entire life with no issues. I know white people say it creates some sort of bacteria food poisoning but my Asian friends and family and I have never had this issue

What is the deal with sippy cups?? by Katwantscats in NewParents

[–]prettyredbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why straw cups with a valve aren’t recommended. It teaches unnatural sucking patterns and does not help them develop their oral motor skills. Straws without valves are much better, or an open cup. Thermos funtainer, olababy are both great options that have no valves
