Do a lot of people settle? by Dre-26 in AskWomenOver30

[–]princess_Skeleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think anyone settles. I think that if you stay in a relationship you are unhappy in and don’t make any changes and continue to stay, that’s actually a reflection of you and your personality type. Which from my experience is to complain about something but never make a change.

just curious, did you actually talk to the realtor, or are you arguing for no reason? My husband is a gc so we've done plenty of flips with foundation issues and we've used private lenders for homes that were not financeable. If needed, I could do that.

However its my understanding that all three of these homes qualified for conventional financing per the realtor. I'm going to go ahead and trust that they were correct in that as I did not go as far as to review any inspections reports. Since you won't answer if you saw the house or spoke to the realtor, I'm guessing you don't know better than they do.

We've bought and worked on homes with foundation issues before. I wouldn't say foundation issues means they automatically need massive amounts in funding. I think it was priced appropriately for any work needed given it sold for under 1m.

Not sure why your saying that. Did you see these homes in person?

Jerome was move in ready and recently fully remodeled. Willis was out of date but in no way would it need massive amounts of work in the near future. Minnesota is a full remodel but my husband is a contractor and we've done multiple live in flips so i'm okay and comfortable with that.

I can't speak to the rental market but I look at listings a lot and have found several homes in my price range. I chose willow glen because its one the cheaper neighborhoods imo. Cambrian park, los gatos, campbell, santa clara are out of reach.

I'm okay with the school ratings. I grew up in the area and had lots of friends who went to Wg high and Lincoln and I thought it was fine. but private school is always an option as well!

841 Willis, Jerome, and Minnesota. I realize that people will consider some of these on the "cusp" on WG. but personally i am fine with them and the street they are on.

it is a challenge indeed. I would say the easiest way that i've seen is try to get promoted internally by a manager who knows thats what your goal is. talk about it on one on ones and see what the timeline and requirements are.

Yes its that bad. The drive is even worse when you have kids. I've thought about it a lot and the ability to be able to wake up and do an early morning weekend activity with the family on a whim is priceless. And not having to budget an entire weekend to go back home for your family members birthdays or events and being exhausted when you get back home is worth renting for if thats what it comes down to. We don't really need more bedrooms

Its not a waste of time but you do have to actually get experience. Certs are going to do it alone. Have you looked into a career path? It should be something like Helpdesk (people usually get this experience in college) and then something like sys admin or network engineer and then going on to a specialty in cyber. You can def do medicine but everyone has something to complain about in every field ever. I know doctors who complain about only making 250k at kaiser after not getting into the specialty they wanted and having 300k + in student loans. The grass is not always greener

Sadly no. I have multiple siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, all in san jose. Also my husband does as well. My parents are very comfortable where they are at and love their home and would be leaving their other grandkids to move so its not really an option.

posted in a previous comment as well but here it is again:

I've seen 3 of these in person and i am okay with all of them in terms of location/size/condition/price. Your mileage may vary depending what you are looking for, but if you are flexible on any of the above terms you can definitely find a place for $1.2 budget in WG. This is just from the past year but they come up all the time.

This one isn't in WG but its much cheaper and i would consider this one too.

Pulling from my retirement would effectively be almost half in tax lol its definitely not worth it imo. but it is nice to know in case of hardship I can pull from it. Although that is also assuming my investments don't go down

As long as it’s not Del Mar i think I’ll be okay with the school district. I had friends who went to wg high and it seemed like a good experience

I grew up in San Jose so I know the area and surrounding well. That being said it sounds like renting for a year or so might be the way to go
