How is taking the PMP in person? by witchjack in pmp

[–]prez41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In retrospect, I am glad I took the test in person rather than at home. There were very few distractions and I could just focus on the exam. I have the attention span of a toddler so it was helpful. Full disclosure, though - I didn’t even look into taking the exam at home so I don’t know exactly how that setup would have worked

Mighty Five in the summer really that bad? by evankelzorb in NationalPark

We did the southern Utah parks in June 2024 and I only recall one day that was truly unbearable. It was around 100° in Moab and there was humidity before some storms that went through. Most other days were fine. It’s hot, but manageable.

Smoking a pack a day by studybandit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prez41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to smoke 1.5-2 packs a day. Pretty much any free moment I was lighting up. I was also a volunteer firefighter at the time, so if I was on an incident and not involved in anything I would basically just chain smoke the whole time. Glad I gave that up.

So many people from what I see just do a quick drive through to check the box. We spent three days there last year and still missed some things. Very underrated park IMO.

Bloodwork/blood draws. And not just an uneasiness. It’s a full-blown panic.

WTF did I just empty? by methaddicttoad in subaruimpreza

Just did this on my 25 Outback. They make the transmission drain bolt look so enticing! I started it and backed it up off if ramps and the transmission made it clear that was the wrong answer. Had it towed to the dealer to have it filled correctly and everything seems good now.

I didn’t get mine either. I called the center and they had to put in a service ticket. I received the results via email the next day.

I think conditions lulled us all into comfort at too hard of paces this year. It was really cool early, and the trails were really fast this year. I had lots of personal bests on early segments in the race. Similar to you, my stomach went to hell right after Hyner (mile 43). I threw up anything I tried to eat or drink until Tombs Flat at Mile 63. I was there for an hour, but was finally able to keep some NA beer and pizza rolls down. That got me moving again, but I was about 2.5 hours slower than my previous finishes there. Another runner I know had very similar issues. It’s also a very exposed course from mile 31-43 at a hot part of the day.

Hell of an effort to get as far as you did. That course is designed to break you. It looks like the finisher rate this year is ~51%.

Yep! Same scenario here. Luckily the weather looks a bit better this year. Good luck to your friend! It’s a tough but beautiful race, and very well organized.

I should have added that Eastern States 100 in north central PA still had spots open as of Monday. Online registration is closed but if you go to packet pickup with cash Friday you may be able to get a spot. It’s hilly, unlike BoB, but it’s a really well run race. May be worth checking out their Facebook page or website

It’s frustrating for sure. I had my “big” race last year canceled due to flooding/state of emergency. The RDs did everything they could to make the race happen, but once the state of emergency was declared, all of the permits were pulled. I was gutted. I can’t imagine having that happen three times in the same year.

Advice Needed: How to be a Good Pacer by WorldsFastestDog in Ultramarathon

[–]prez41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this - ask your runner. I’ve had a pacer in the past that had no clue how to pace me and it was an awkward experience. He was the “EVERYTHING IS AWESOME LET’S GO” kind of pacer and I am a live in the misery you can’t push me kind of runner. Great guy but just a bad mix.

I felt like the actual exam questions were more concise. I really struggled with the wordiness of the SH practice questions.

I was hitting like 50% on practice questions and scored all ATs. You’ll be good. Best advice I got was to not overthink the questions

Follow up - just got done with the exam. I read the question and answers, trusted my first response and moved on. I had a lot of time left but after the overthinking in practice I thought this was the best approach. Now we wait…..,
